Negative Approach- Mohawk, Austin Tx. 9/6/22 4K UHD Multicam with Matrix Audio John Brannon

Man, that is awful news about DH Peligro. I did not know him, but I was lucky enough to have a camera/video pass to a fest they played. He & East Bay Ray were the highlights of that set, for sure. The video is on Sacramento Music Archive if you want to see it, not gonna push it on anyone.
Anyway, here is another one of the multicamera shots I did at the Mohawk- the tour played 2 nights here and this was the 2nd night, and the last night of the NA/7 Seconds/CJ tour. Man, I love this venue and the people who work there. Just a great place and a perfect place for my video setup.
NA were so awesome on this tour- I don’t see how Brannon can do that type of vocal every night on tour. My voice was gone, just trying to talk to people during that run.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped with the edit.

Circle Jerks- Mohawk, Austin Tx 9/6/22 Audio only DPA4061 Mics

The very last post of the September Texas Tour is finally here, so you can finally be relieved of me going on and on about it. I had a flight out pretty early the next morning, so I was up at 6 or 7am walking to my car. I check my phone, and my flight has been cancelled. I had to scramble and get an indirect flight that landed me in Sac about 6 hours later than expected. So, I guess that southwest was up to shenanigans even before Christmas.
I was able to get pretty close to the PA this time, so this one sounds a lot better than night 1 at the mohawk. Actually, this is probably the best quality CJ recording of the tour.
The venue is awesome, everyone in Austin should make this place their main hangout. Great people, cheap drinks, excellent bands.

Negative Approach- Mohawk, Austin Tx. 9/5/22 5camera 4k Multicam with Matrix audio

About a month ago, I followed the end of the Circle Jerks/7 Seconds/Negative Approach tour through all 5 dates in Texas. Man, that was a lot of driving. Texas is huge. It was totally worth it- everyone that worked for the bands and venues were cool. It was a blast.
Anyway, here is the first multicam edit from that run of shows. The Mohawk in Austin was by far the best venue of the tour in my opinion- everyone who works there was super nice. It was really great for video as well. Since Negative Approach started their set during daylight hours, the quality is even better than usual. The audio turned out great with the help of Jim McLain’s mix of 3 different sources. Tromster clearly put a lot of effort into the edits- thanks my friend. Thanks to the bands and venues for allowing me to do this. Now, if someone can share this with John Brannon, that would be cool. I don’t know how to contact him.

7 Seconds- Mohawk, Austin Tx. 9/5/22 5camera 4k Multicam with Matrix audio Kevin Hardcore

Here is 7 Seconds’ set from the first night at Mohawk. This is my favorite set of the tour- they did “Trust”, which was a rarity. Also, some things never change- the band had to stop in the middle of “here we go again” because people were fighting. It’s like these dudes don’t even listen to the lyrics.
These mohawk shows are the best shows we have ever filmed and edited- so proud of these, and thankful to Jim McLain and Tromster for the help. I love that angle behind Sammy where you can see the sold out crowd watching and singing along. So great.

7 Seconds- Mohawk, Austin Tx. 9/6/22 6 camera 4k Multicam with Matrix audio Kevin Hardcore

I got so busy yesterday that I did not have time to post this. Even though we are on Mediocre Monday, this one is far from mediocre. I don’t typically enjoy my own videos- I see my mistakes and I can’t watch. This is one where everything came out really well. We also added an audience gopro camera which gives you a good view of the pit. Jim’s mix of the 3 audio sources (DPA Mics, Rode Mic and board mix) make it sounds like an official live album. Tromster’s edit came out nice, 7 Seconds is one of his favorite bands. Well done on all fronts.

Circle Jerks- Mohawk, Austin Tx. 9/5/22 Audio Only DPA4061 mics incomplete

After 7 Seconds’ GREAT set (best of the Texas tour in my opinion), I had to get to the stage and tear down all of my gopros and the stands, and in the process I managed to misplace my monopod. Thankfully, it turned up the next day- that monopod ain’t cheap! I saw Kevin and Bobby out on the sidewalk outside of the venue, so I hung out and talked to them for a while after the show. By the time I went back in, Circle Jerks were already about halfway through their set and it was super packed in there so I could not get close enough to the PA main to make it sound good. Here’s what I got. It’s not bad.

Grand Champeen- Hole in the Wall, Austin Tx. 6/21/19 Multicam with Matrix Multitrack Audio Live

This is probably going to be long. Anonymous and I flew to Austin for a weekend of shows & BBQ a couple years back. It was a total blast and I can’t wait to get back to trips like these.
This one has taken a while because we we waiting on multitrack audio from the house soundman that night. Michael Crow went above and beyond, following up with him for over A YEAR to get the hard drive. He found out that the first part of the show was lost, but he was able to take Anonymous’ schoeps recording and matrix it with the raw board mix… so you will get a good sounding matrix for the 1st 12min, and then the multitrack (also mixed by Crow) kicks in and sounds amazing! Thanks Crow and Anonymous!!
This is one of those rare videos where the performance was excellent, it sounds great, and the angles work. Totally worth the wait.
Special thanks to Tromster for the mix- he mixed this TWICE while caring for his wife and his 1 month old newborn. Thanks friend, and congratulations again.
This one goes out to my postcard family- I hope you can enjoy this, especially with the bad/uncertain news we have been dealing with lately.

Grand Champeen- Hole in the Wall, Austin Tx. 6/21/19 Single Cam version Canon HFG40 Rode Videomic

Here is another “one angle from a future multicam” series. We are waiting for multitrack audio for this show. It should edit together nicely- we have 6 camera angles for this one.
My and my friend Jason Ellis flew to Texas to see this show, eat a bunch of BBQ, and see Slobberbone/Brent Best in Dallas. No one told me how far away Dallas is from Austin.

Mike Nicolai opened the Champeen show in Austin last year. If you haven’t heard his music, you need to check it out. Excellent power pop. Just listen. You’ll like it. 🙂 Features Michael Crow from Grand Champeen on lead guitar.
I only did 2 angles for this show, and unfortunately only this one came out as the other one has some vibration issues.

3 Wheeler Band- Spiderhouse, Austin Tx 3/14/18 Canon HFG40 Rode VPS Mic

So after crashing at Phillip Garcia’s place (thanks again), I had about 8 hours to kill before heading to the airport… so I got some BBQ and headed to Spiderhouse. There was a FREE “Stoner Jam” music fest going on with bands on 5 stages. I randomly headed to one of the main stages and got to see this band, from Monterrey Mexico. They were pretty good! After this set, I went into the house (this place is a crazy maze of rooms and stages) and saw the end of another set by a band called “Love Gang”, who I MUST SEE one day. Hear that, Chris Lemos?
