Punch the Clown- Sacto Active Rock, Sacramento Ca 3/23/94 xfer from U-Matic Master Tape Ska

Last year, Lizz Fisher asked me if I wanted to be the keeper/steward of the Sacto Active Rock U-Matic master tapes. I could not say YES fast enough! Thank you so much, Lizz! Sacto Active Rock was a Sacramento Cable show in the early 90s and THE place to perform live in studio for the local Punk/Metal/Alternative/Ska scene.
Background: A U-Matic tape is a very large videotape that was used as Television’s main format until digital came along. The players for these tapes are also massive- the one I have weighs over 81lbs! All of the Sacto Active Rock episodes that were posted before I got these were from VHS- either a copy from these tapes, or taped off cable TV. So this is an upgrade!
Not only that, but there was never a VHS tape made for this particular performance, so this seems to be the first time this one is online and available to watch.
Expect the rest of the episodes to be posted over time. Except for one certain blues man who wanted his pulled down because it doesn’t represent who he is now.

Jack (Pre- Oleander )- Sacto Active Rock Sacramento Community Cable Episode #36 1994

Jack was Oleander, before they were called Oleander! They consisted of: Doug Eldridge- Bass; Tommy Flowers- Vocals, Guitar; Ric Ivanisevich- Guitar; Henry (Mitch) Mitchell- Drums. Please tag them- I bet they’d love to see it! The audio is messed up at the beginning and there is some color bleed that was out of control of the crew. It’s still quite enjoyable. If you want to see more Sacto Active Rock episodes, or any other rock videos, please subscribe to my youtube channel. Thanks.

Caboose- Sacto Active Rock, Community Cable, Sacramento Ca, 1994 xfer from Band VHS tape

Late post today, tough work day. Thanks to John Taylor for loaning a couple of VHS tapes to me. Here is one of the only Sacto Active Rock episodes that has not been posted yet- Caboose!
Caboose consisted of John Taylor on drums, Chris Woodhouse on guitar and vocals, and Gabriel Nelson on bass. Talk about an all star lineup! They put out 1 LP on 1719 records that is pretty hard to find.
This episode has a psychedelic effect throughout the live performance

Christmas with Kiss- Sacto Active Rock, Sacramento Cable 11/30/93 xfer f/U-matic master Enhanced

I had this collections post all ready last weekend so I could do the rare “On this Date” and a collections post at the same time. And then I forgot. Ugh.

This is another studio master transfer and upgrade from the Sacto Active Rock umatic master tapes.

It’s pretty wild that “kiss” would do a community cable show, but if this isn’t them, it is the most convincing tribute I have ever seen of theirs. Who the heck pulled this off? You would think that Paul would be part of it, but who else? Hard to tell with the (well done) makeup.

Thanks to Skid Jones for the member info:
Gene – Paul Niklewicz
Paul – Chris McCann
Ace – Ned Hammad
Peter – Steve Marshall

The Decibels- Sacto Active Rock, Sacramento Community Cable 8/25/93 xfer f/Umatic Master Power Pop

Time for today’s video collections post. This one is from Lizz Fisher’s Umatic master tapes of Sacto Active Rock. Umatic tapes are the big tapes that TV stations use to broadcast shows, so the quality doesn’t get better than this! These are turning out so nice, stoked to be working on them.

dRAW PiNKY- Sacto Active Rock, Sacramento Community Cable 3/17/93 xfer f/Umatic Master Ozzie

Another awesome video from Lizz Fisher’s Sacto Active Rock Umatic master collection. dRAW PiNKY is from Sacramento, California. Several members were in local legends, Ozzie.
The band came back from a long period of dormancy to release an EP in mid-2024 and a couple of christmas singles- 1 each at the end of 2024 and 2025. I enjoyed the Krampus cover on the ’24 ep.
Anyway, here they are in better quality than previously posted. The high end has slight distortion, which is present on the source tape.

Horny Mormons- Sacto Active Rock Community Cable Show Episode #3 3/4/91

Thanks to a kind benefactor, we now have transfers of about 30 “Sacto Active Rock” episodes straight from the VHS masters that were taped off of cable. I will post these as time allows. Here’s the pure insanity of The Horny Mormons. I noticed that Ken Doose has this posted to his YT channel. I was not sure if this was better quality or not, so here you go.
