The Posies- The Octopus Literary Salon, Oakland Ca. 5/29/16 Part 1 Canon HFG30 and Rode Mic

The Posies did this crazy tour where they played TINY venues – capacity 80 or less. They would give you the venue name the day of the show. The Bay Area show was the last show of the tour and it was great- the venue had great sound and the sightlines were not bad for being so packed. I had 4 cameras with me, but only had room to use 1- a monopod on top of the merch table! Recorded with a Canon HFG30 and Rode Video Pro Stereo Mic. Thanks to Ken for permission to film.

Titus Andronicus- Oddfellows Hall, Davis Ca. 5/25/16 Part 1 Canon HFG30 & Rode Video Pro Mic

I have been a TA fan for a while, and had seen them once before- in 2012. That show was good- they played Orion Festival (Metallica’s fest) in NJ and I audiotaped. I saw Patrick Stickles (Vocal/Guitar/Main man from TA) so I approached him and gave him a copy of the recording from the fest. He was SO COOL and appreciative of the show- we chatted about the fest briefly- he remebered it very clearly which was kinda amazing given how many shows they play. Anyway, this Davis show was unbelievable- the intensity of the performance was unreal. The venue is upstairs and has a ballroom-style floor, which means that it bounces when people bounce. Well, it was bouncing HARD which is why the video bounces a bit. The crowd went wild- this has been the best show of 2016 for me. Glad I went, as I almost blew it off.

MDC- Blue Lamp, Sacramento Ca. 5/20/16 Multicam w/Rode Audio M.D.C.

This was supposed to be a 4 camera shoot, but things did not go quite as planned. The pool table (my go-to for the back camera) was packed with merch, so I did not want to cut into that space. I had a friend hold a G10 on a monopod right by the bar for a 3rd camera, just off stage right as there is usually not much action over there. Well, when the band started, a HUGE pit the size of the entire front part of the club erupted. My friend got plowed into, camera went flying. Surprisingly, the camera is fine. The battery was destroyed, but no biggie. Filmed with 1 G30 on tripod, 1 G30 on monopod. Rode audio, as the digital recorder was also knocked off the perch at the board. Everything and everyone survived. Enjoy.
