Fang- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 11/8/24 4K UHD Multicam w/Schoeps Audio Landshark punk

This is an unusual one. The stage at the cafe is a bit small, so Sammy decided to perform on the (dark) floor in front of the stage. So this video is mostly his band playing with an occasional Sammy silhouette singing. Haha. Oh well, they all can’t be perfect.

Equipment used: Panasonic Lumix G9ii w/Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm F/2.8-4 ASPH lens and 2x gopro hero 7 black; Audio from Schoeps CCM4 mics, Naiant Tinybox preamp, Sony A10 digital recorder

Fang- Malt Soda Bash, The Pound, San Francisco Ca 2/28/04 xfer f/1st gen VHS tape Sammytown Punk

Another Malt Soda Bash set from Barry Ward’s collection. There is only one more band left on the show- any guesses? You’ll find out in a month or so.

This must have been a rare show at the time. Setlist dot fm has a gap in activity for the band between 2001-2007, even though they apparently toured the USA in 2004. Odd.

Features Jimmy Crucifix (Jaycee Francis Schmith) on guitar- very cool!

Fang- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 2/13/87 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette Rebalanced Sammytown

Here is a very short Fang audio soundboard clip- this was on the same tape as the Dave MDC board from yesterday. C’mon, you have 4 minutes to spend listening to this. Sounds like there is a conflict toward the end of the tape.

Fang- Day at the Farm, San Francisco 7/27/86 xfer f/2nd gen soundboard cassette rebalanced Sammytown

I had these tapes from James R Edmonds since about the beginning of the year and lost contact with him. We reconnected recently so that got me in gear to take these transfers I did months ago and prep the for post. Thanks James!
The mix was light on drums and guitar, heavy on bass and vocals. I did as much as I could in Izotope without making it sound too weird. It looks like I forgot to trim the tape, so you get some other stuff mixed in at about the 45min mark, but then the rest of the set happens after. Odd

Fang and Tales of Terror- “Concert” Cassette, sometime in 1980s Punk Sam McBride Sammytown Rats Ass

It’s audience participation time! This one comes from Chris Eng’s collection, and as you can see, details are scarce. If anyone can help identify date, venue, city or anything at all, please let me know.

UPDATE: Holy crap we seem to have a pretty special one today. Like I said earlier today, I was running behind so I didn’t check this one closely. I had to work the last 2 songs as they sounded way different than the rest of the set, and that was because they were the only 2 Fang songs! The rest is a Tales of Terror set!!! I have never heard any decent quality ToT audience tapes, and the way that the levels are adjusted at the start it seems like a pro walkman kind of deal.

On the fang part, from Tom Flynn (band member): “the first 21 minutes of that tape is not Fang, it’s Tales of Terror. Fang is only the last song and a half. I know we played with Dead Kennedy’s at On Broadway in 1982, but I can tell by the drumming that this is not from back then. So has to be some other random show from 83 or 84.”. Any help on the ToT would be appreciated.

I want to extend a big thank you and welcome to Brook Shattuck to the archive. He has been posting photos and flyers to facebook and he has given the OK to add them here. Any documentation before 1985 in Sac is like gold- very little existed before Brook started sharing recently. Thank you!

We’ll be posting one
