Audio collections post courtesy of Matt Hargrove tonight. It’s late because this file was sitting on the RAID in Orangevale and I didn’t get there until about 7pm. Had it all worked up last weekend and forgot to upload it!

These Yo La Tengo WFMU shows are legendary. I can’t remember the exact amounts, but if you pledge a certain amount, you can ask the band to play any song. You can pay more for an actual YLT song, haha. You can usually hear them working out the songs in the bacground while DJ’s ask for donations, but this one is heavily edited.

Unfortunately, this one also doesn’t sound so good. That is one of the downsides of the change from DAT tapers and traders to CDR traders. The meticulous care in lineage went away. This one was obviously transferred from an audio cassette with some wow and flutter issues. Regardless, this does not exist anywhere in any form that I can see, so happy to have it.

Here’s another really unique thing for On This Day in History. For many years, Yo La Tengo has helped WFMU raise money by playing live in studio for a couple hours during their fund raising telethons. The fun twist is this- if you donate $50, they will play any cover you request; or for $100, they will play an actual Yo La Tengo song. So you get a ton of coevrs and at least 1 YLT song that I heard.
This is the full 2 hour and 10 session, including the DJ discussion in between songs. If you want to hear YLT only, skip forard to about 15 minutes.
It’s really a fun listen.
Oh and PS: I know that this photo is from the 2000 WFMU fundraiser, but it was the closest thing I could find to represent this.
