The Four Eyes-Charles Albright Fest, Phono Select Sacramento Ca 8/17/24 HD Master w/Multitrack Audio

Alright, this is going to be a long story I think.
Charles contacted me and asked if I could video this fest last year. I had a family conflict, but I brought one of my older handheld cameras and the 3 gopros with the extended batteries so he could have it filmed.
Well, unfortunately, the 3 gopros got everything up to the set right before this one and then died. This is a one camera hand held job done by someone in Charles’ family. On the bright side, it sounds great! Jeff Melendez recorded multitrack audio of the entire day- he is just starting to mix them down, so I will have the other sets edited as the audio comes along. More to come.

Reno Casinos- Charles Albright Fest, Phono Select, Sacramento 8/17/24 Multicam Vid Multitrack Audio

Let’s keep today an all-Sacramento day of posts. Reno Casinos played the Charles Albright fest last year. My cameras were there, but I wasn’t. Unfortunately, the main angle was not available for most of the set so you mostly see the 3 gopro angles. It sounds great, thanks to Jeffrey Melendez’ multitrack audio recording of the show.

I don’t know a whole lot about this band- I do see 1 member of the Four Eyes in the and my old friend Jaz Brown on drums. They put out a couple of small CDR/Lathe Cut releases on Secret Center in the early 2020’s.

I was planning on posting something else today, but I hate the audio enough for a re-do. Here is one that we had posted a few months ago and the audio was out of synch. This is the corrected version. Speaking of this, we need to get back on editing these ones together. There are more sets from this fest to do.

Knock Knock- Charles Albright Fest Sacramento Ca 8/17/24 Multicam w/Multitrack Audio Bananas nokilli

We are just about done with the Charles Albright fest sets- we have 2 more multicams ready to go, and then some incomplete fragments of sets without multitrack audio.. yet. Thanks to Jeff Melendez for his work on the multitrack mix, and as always ⁨@PunksNotDeadGR⁩ for the edits, especially of bands he doesn’t know anything about!

Members are a fine cross-section of Sacramento Rock and Roll, with people from just about every band in town. Including but not limited to Horny Mormons, Lil Bunnies, No Kill I, The Bananas, The Coz, The Globs From Outer Space, and Blizzard of Al.

Monster Treasure- Charles Albright Fest, Phono Select, Sacramento 8/17/24 Multicam Multitrack Audio

Alright, it’s another one from the Charles Albright Festival! This is probably my favorite band that played that day, but I really liked them all. I was bummed to miss it.
My daughter had a soccer tournament that day so I dropped one of my consumer camcorders and 3 gopros at Phono Select to video the bands that day. Christine Shelley’s dad video’d the main angle. Unfortunately, the entire set was not filmed from the main angle so you get mostly gopro action here. Sound great though.

The Frenchmen- Charles Albright Fest Phono Select Records Sacramento Ca 8/17/24 HD Multicam w/Matrix

What a day. After a refreshing 3 hour and 50 minute sleep last night, it has been nonstop today. It was worth it to see that Uli show. It was amazing.

I am staying in with my son tonight and seriously bummed to be missing the Rocketship reunion show w/Molina and this band. At least there is this 17 minute video to enjoy. You should check this out and then get to the Starlet Room in time to see The Frenchmen’s set. You’ll know most of the set!

The Government- Phono Select, Sacramento Ca. 3/24/24 4K UHD with schoeps audio hardcore punk

Last video post for the weekend and it’s a recent master recording. This was the middle band of that last Phono Select show with Deathryders. I don’t know much about them, except that they are from the bay area and they are not on discogs, from what I can find. This one is a bit darker than the rest since they turned out most of the lights for the set. First time I had seen a pit at Phono- I hope no records were damaged.

Deathryders- Phono Select, Sacramento Ca 3/23/24 4K UHD Multicam with Schoeps Audio Tales of Terror

There was a great show last weekend at Phono Select. It was supposed to be an outdoor thing, but the weather forced it to take place inside. I can’t say I have ever seen a pit in a record store before, that was interesting.
I filmed 3 of the 4 bands, but this is the only multicamera I did. It mostly went right, except for 2 things- the GH5S looks muddy. It might be the cine-d setting- this is the same exact lens and settings that I used for the Boardwalk show the week before. No idea why it looks like that. Also the gopro on the left side was covered by a band member and there was no way to get over there to fix it before they started, so this is a 3 camera job. No stage so I had to get my GH5S WAY up there in order to film this one.

Long Term Effects- Phono Select, Sacramento Ca 11/18/23 Schoeps Audience Master Modesto Band

This was the 2nd band on the bill, after The Moans played on Saturday. I was worried when one of the guitarists had a Meshuggah shirt and a Jackson metal looking guitar… but no metal here. Competently played alternative rock. I can’t remember a local band coming out of Modesto and playing up here… except for maybe Grandaddy early on.
They have a CD for sale at Phono Select if you like what you hear.
Danny’s F cancer series is such fun annual event. It raised over $3400 this year for American Cancer Society. Well done!

The Community- Phono Select, Sacramento Ca 11/18/23 4K UHD Master with Schoeps Audio

As part of Danny’s F Cancer annual fest, The Community played for the first time in 7ish years. I missed them the first time around so I was happy to see them… and having them in well-lit Phono was even better. I mentioned this before, but it seemed like everyone from the 2010s punk scene showed up for this one. It was nice to catch up with so many people, and to meet Neil from The Community.
Sorry it took so long to post this one, pluraleyes chokes on big files- I tried synching the schoeps audio with this right after the show, but it kept erroring out. I was planning to give it one last try then chop the video in half, synch, the rejoin the parts (which is as big of a pain in the ass as it sounds), and it decided to work this morning. Man, I wish I knew what made it work this time around.
Anyway, a good energetic set from the band. Danny was able to donate $7k to American Cancer Society as part of the 5 night run of shows.
