Ben Nichols and Rick Steff- Folsom Hotel, Folsom Ca. 11/14/21 4K UHD Lucero Americana Alt.Country

This was the strangest booking I had seen in a while- Ben Nichols from Lucero playing at a venue close to home that rarely holds shows. I think this is the first touring artist I have ever heard playing here.
Me and Anonymous get to the show and it was pretty packed and loud. It was like trying to record a band playing in the middle of a house party. It was crazy.
The intimacy of the show clearly made it special. Ben played a main set of about 70 minutes, then came out for almost an hour of encores. There is one moment(at about 95 minutes in) where the hardcore fans in the front were singing along so loud to every word, that Ben stopped singing and let them take over. It was an unexpectedly excellent show. It goes to prove- no matter how goofy the booking seems, always go to the show. You never know what you might see.
Oh, and my memory card screwed up early in the set. I think I only lost the first song. I now know to never use slot 2 on the ol GH5S.

Gene Chowder- Powerhouse Pub, Folsom Ca. 11/3/21 4K UHD Live w/ Misfits Ramones Frank Sinatra covers

Last night was the kickoff of Danny Reynoso’s annual F Cancer run of benefit shows. Here is Gene Chowder’s set from the show- this guy has an uncanny resemblance to Danny! Gene performs lounge-style versions of your favorite punk (and Sinatra) songs. Good times!
I wasn’t planning on going, but I had a 45 minute window in my day (school tour, then work, then soccer game, dinner/shower/bedtime for the kids) so I hauled ass, dirty and unshaven, to The Powerhouse and arrived right when Gene got on stage. What I am saying is, if I can make it to a show with that schedule, you most definitely can as well. Please support this and other local shows.

Astral Cult- Dimple Records, Folsom Ca. 4/21/18 Canon HFG40 & Rode VPS Mic

Here is stop #2 of “Dimple RSD Tour 2018”. I was planning to go to the Graveshadow in store at Arden as well, but I got cranky so I just went home.
Man, Astral Cult are pretty cool. Psychedelic fuzzy wah wah bass goodness! Stefan(Bass) tended to drown out the guitar when the vocalist stopped playing second guitar, but it sounded pretty good- they were ear ringing loud but the sound is alright.
I also tried some of Stefan’s tea (he has a tea company) and edven though I am not a big tea drinker, that’s some good stuff. 2 thumbs up- one for astral cult, one for the tea.
