Kepi Ghoulie- The Colony, Sacramento Ca. 1/21/16 OLD Groovie Ghoulies songs & Green Day cover! Pt 1

I was not even supposed to be in town for this show, but I missed a flight for a work trip so I made a last-minute decision to go.. and I am so glad I did! Kepi got some guys from local Sacramento band The Strange Party to back him up. They played songs I had not heard in 20 years- Blood Beach, 50,000 Spaceships and more! There’s even a Green Day cover in the set. It was great seeing everyone- friends, people who performed, and people who made it happen.

The O’Mulligans- The Colony, Sacramento Ca. 1/21/16 Sacramento Punk Pt. 1

I had never seen The O’Mulligans, but I knew that Matt Bennett was a fan, and he’s a man of good taste. I usually check out a band once before getting permission and filming, but they were so good, I just whipped out the camera and started filming. Hope you guys don’t mind! Filmed with a Canon HFG30 and rode video pro stereo mic.

TSOL- Blue Lamp, Sacramento Ca. 1/17/16 Multicam w/Schoeps Audio. T.S.O.L.

This show was a challenge. TSOL sold out the blue lamp, and it was so packed that you could not get from one side of the club to the other. Add my equipment (3 cameras, 2 tripods and a monopod) and it was even worse. I managed to get all 3 set up (thanks to Gabi for letting me set up on the pool table). Then, when TSOL starts, this guy who let me through to set up my camera stands on a chair RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT. He;s the guy in the hat. so, not the best video due to the circumstances. Also, Agelos (who does most of my edits) thought he did a poor job editing. I think it looks great, given the circumstances. Thanks Agelos, and Thanks Jason for the great audio. Thanks to Brian McKenna for bringing some ROCK to town (rather than those beard/jam bands :-)) One last note- it was so hot & humid in the club, that the ventilation system above us had serious condensation issues & started “raining” all over my equipment and the DJ rig (with extremely rarae records!). Luckily, I escaped with no damage. It was crazy.

Crude Studs- Starlite Lounge, Sacramento Ca. 1/17/16 R.I.P. Bobby Khan

It was a horrible shock last night to learn that Bobby unexpectedly passed away. Bobby was a fixture in the local Sacramento metal/punk scene. Whenever we saw each other at shows, we would talk about our old metal days. One time, he held a contest on fb for a free slayer biography. The best slayer story got the book. I had an unfair advantage since Matt Polish and I used to hang out with them so I won. I still have the book and I’ll cherish it a bit more now. I’m so sad, he was a really nice guy.
Here is a video from the only time I saw his band, Crude Studs play. I don’t know why it doesn’t sound as good as my usual videos- I think I had my rode mic on the wrong setting.
