Thin White Rope- Burro Room, Chico Ca. 3/22/91 Part 1

Man, what a night this was. The Burro Room was a legendary venue- the Room was a standard venue- long and narrow. Next door was Juanita’s Burritos- they had cheap burritos and was one of the first places in the nation to have Sierra Nevada on tap. So we would drive up there, have a couple of pitchers and a burrito and wait for the show. This show was one of the best (and longest) I ever saw of TWR. I found a great little perch above the door between the 2 venues thatwas not only great for a tripod, but also sounded excellent because it was close to the PA. Recorded with the old Aiwa CV80 camcorder with a Sony ECM-909 mic velcro’d to the top. Enjoy! PS: Guy is in a beautiful polka dot dress for the show.

This is part 1 only- you can find the rest of the show on Youtube

Flaming Lips- Burro Room, Chico Ca. 10/21/89 Audio Only Sony WMD6C Pro Walkman Live Master Xfer

Back in the 80s, it was really hard to get information about out-of-town shows. You could get some info from the SF Chronicle’s pink sheets, but a lot of it was word of mouth or getting a flyer(or The List) from a show. Chico was a total black hole (no offense intended)- the only way we found out about these shows was usually when we would see a band in Sac and they told us that they were playing Chico the next night.
So after laying waste to the UC Davis Coffeehouse, Anonymous followed them to Chico the record the Burro Room show. This one is as good quality as UCD.

Vomit Launch- Burro Room, Chico Ca. 9/16/89 Enhanced master with Sony D6 Audio!

This was a special show- Vomit Launch doing a headlining set in their hometown, in their prime.
Not only that, but I took my 8mm master video and brightened/denoised it so you can actually see Lindsey play guitar!
and that’s not all… thanks to Sam Habash, we have “Anonymous”‘s EXCELLENT audio courtesy of a Sony D6 & ECM909 mic, synched up to the video. Where else will you find a 75 minute VL set? Nowhere. Nowhere.

Mudhoney- Burro Room, Chico Ca. 9/4/89 xfer from 8mm master!

Wow, I forgot how good thing video is. This is the night after the Cattle Club show. We had not planned to go to Chico the next night, but the Sac show was so good that Mark Martin convinced us to go. The most vivid memory of this show was when me and Lawrence Crane (from Vomit Launch and Tape Op Magazine) were nerding out about music and bands. We got so obscure with our love for SF “early alternative” bands like Donner Party that Mark Arm (who was sitting in between us” threw up his hands and walked away! Ha ha, classic. Juanita’s (the burrito place connected to the venue) used to get kegs of special Sierra Nevada beers before the whole microbrew thing was a big deal. We had some special ale that tasted like aspirin and TRASHED us. Video sounds great and looks ok. Happy with it, 27 years later!
