This one has a LONG, wacky backstory to it. This was MDC’s last show of the US leg of their tour- they were flying to Japan early the next morning out of SFO (2.5 hour drive). They had already parked their tour van by SFO and were playing on borrowed equipment. Barry Ward came to me and asked if he could borrow an amp from someone, so we (me and someone else- eric Marias?) called everyone who lived close and Cory Weigert had Andy’s amp from the Peace Killers. So, during the set break right before MDC goes on, I haul ass in my car to the Cafe Colonial to meet up with Cory. He is still talking to Andy and he gets the OK. In our haste, Cory locks himself out of the Cafe- he is yelling through the mail slot to Matt to let him back in… we finally get the amp and haul ass back to the Blue Lamp. I pull up on the sidewalk and bring the amp on stage… and they don’t use it. Barry DI’d into the board. So I scramble to get cameras up and film this video. Thanks to Cory for enduring all that, and thanks to Gabi for pushing the band’s start time back until we arrived.
Epilogue: About 2 days after the show, I get a FB message from one of the opening bands. He was upset that MDC named his band as the guys who were supposed to loan them equipment. Ah, no good deed goes unpunished. Oh well. 🙂

Kepi opened the Mean Jeans show and kicked ass with a bunch of Ghoulies songs, along with some more recent ones with a full band. AWESOME.

Well, I was trying to do a multicam of The Croissants, but I did not have enough time to get all of my cameras ready. Here is the single camera version. New drummer, I think!

Since seeing the Mean Jeans last time (at Cafe Colonial) in 2013, they have become one of my favorite bands. They have not played Sacramento since they released “Tight New Dimension” their kickass release for Fat Wreck Chords. Here they are in all of their chaotic, lo fi glory. I love how the gopro moves with the stage at Press, and it is perfect to see Jeans Wilder sing his parts.
I usually hate everything I film because I know what I am going to do next. but this is awesome.

This was the craziest show I have ever seen at Ivy Room. The stage area is tiny (about 15 feet across) and there was a full blown pit going. I thought I was far enough back to be safe, and I got NAILED. The impact was like a kidney punch, and it lifted me in the air, pushed me back a foot or two, and I landed with the camera still pointed at the stage. Ouch.

This is kind of a long story. Cringeworthy is a Cringer “tribute” band. Kamala(Drums) was an original member of Cringer, so it is a quasi-tribute I suppose. Sacramento’s own Anthony Lew and Lory Gilpatrick are also in the band. They were supposed to play The Lookouting, but a nasty flu was going around at the time and the band had to cancel due to illness. They finally played a year after the lookouting!
