GWAR- The Observatory, Santa Ana Ca 10/17/13 Mulitcamera from master sources w/Dave Brockie Complete

For today’s On This Date in History, here’s another one of Vulture Video’s multicamera videos that I helped arrange edits. My old friend Ryan McVay had multiple angles of a few shows that he and Ryan McNamara and others shot with no way to edit them. In comes my buddy punksnotdeadgr to put the angles together for him.

For some reason, this one is only in SD quality but it is still a multicamera video a few months before we lost Brockie.

Recorded by: Ryan McVay and Ryan McNamara (I think)

GWAR- CH25 Compilation Special, SF xfer from band Barry Ward archive VHS tape Joan Rivers and more

Today has been a bit chaotic so I am doing the collections post first. I still have not done my weekly “About the Sac Music Archive” video- trying for today, might be Sunday. I still need to digitize the On This Day post as well. So, yeah, I’m behind.
I just did a slew of Barry Ward’s VHS tapes and this one is wild. Barry edited this compilation together, as he was in the band for a stretch- I think in the 90s. I don’t know if this has any uncirculated appearances- please let me know if all of this is already out there.

GWAR- America Must be Destroyed Demo xfer from band archive cassette HBD Brockie

I was trying to get a little more organized over here and was unboxing and moving a bunch of Barry Ward’s tapes and came across this one. This is all the info I have on it- I tried to shazam the songs to see if they made it onto any deluxe edition reissues but apparently not. Since it is Dave Brockie’s birthday today, I figured it would be a good time to post this up. Enjoy.

GWAR- Early video clips w/Barry Ward? Snub TV Late 80s? 1991?

here’s a fun watch even if the quality is not stellar at times. This was in Barry Ward’s VHS collection and it was just labeled “GWAR”. I tried looking up some of the clips from what I could find and I could not find much info about any of them. The SNUB TV clips seems to not be out there. If any GWAR completist can tell me if these are unique or just bad copies of what’s already out there, I would appreciate it.

For those who were not aware, Barry filled in as Balsac, the Jaws of Death on their 1991 tour.

GWAR- Oderus Urungus on KUSF Rampage Radio, San Francisco Late 80s/Early 90s xfer from band archive

It’s mediocre Monday everybody! And it has truly been a mediocre day- everything is breaking, or not working as expected over here. Pure frustration.
This one is pretty cool- the only reason it qualified for mediocre monday is due to it being PURE CHAOS in the studio. Brockie can’t figure out how to turn on the mic, so they just keep playing random album tracks and his station ID over and over. Also a few minutes of dead air. It’s a good snapshot into the late night insanity that was rampage radio. Ron, any ideas of the date? Late 80s/early 90s is a pure wild ass guess on my part.
I tagged this as being from the band archive- Barry Ward was in the band for a bit and this cassette comes from his collection of tapes. I think he recorded this one.

GWAR, Prong, Raging Slab, 24-7 Spyz, Sea Hags: Much Music Special at CMJ, New York Live & Int 1989?

It’s Friday, so time for video! Next up is something from Gary Shurtleff’s VHS collection. Not only was he one of the most prolific arena filmers in the 90s, but he traded VHS tapes and got some amazing stuff. It’s kind of funny- every time I go to work on Gary’s tapes, I never know what I am going to find. This time it is an Attitude show that I helped film and never had a good copy.. and this.

Canadian TV network Much Music went to the CMJ Music Fest in 1989 (I think) and profiled 5 bands. The GWAR segment is really good- especially the backstage interview and when they crash the “do drugs belong in rock and roll” panel. Includes a mix of live footage shot from the fest, interviews, and an occasional “official” video for one of the band’s singles.

Very nice quality- must be a low gen VHS copy.

GWAR- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 4/15/89 xfer from 8mm master enhanced LIVE

Well, I did everything I could with this one. Gilman’s lighting was poor in early 1989, and that combined with my camera made for an unwatchable video. I was able to increase brightness and exposure to the point where you can actually SEE the band now, but it still ain’t great. Sorry.
OH, I am going to take a break from digitizing and enhancing my old masters for a few weeks. I have Patreon rewards to get out and people have been asking for trades for a year now. I’ll be back soon. In the meantime, browse the word cloud or the listings by month/year section of the website. It’s fun!

Equipment Used: Aiwa CV80 Camera & Sony ECM909 mic

Enhancements: Adobe premiere- brightness and exposure increase, denoise with neat video.
