D.R.I.- Club Can’t Tell, Sacramento Ca. 8/25/85 Audio Recording xfer from master tape

Here is something that I posted to youtube in 2016 but it somehow didn’t get posted to the sac music archive. Ugh, I hate that. Who knows how much more from my YT channel is missing from the website. I even re-digitized it today. Annoying.

Anyway, I don’t usually do the “on this day” type of thing, but this one was a life changer. I was a total metalhead at the time and went to see Slayer, but D.R.I. was opening the show. I had never seen a band play this fast- I was hooked immediately. I bought “Dealing with It” right after the show and it was my soundtrack for the rest of the year. Then came the obligatory purchases of Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Adrenalin O.D, Crucifix, and so many more. So thank D.R.I. for the crash course (or is it thrash course) into punk.

I told the A.O.D. guys that they were on of my gateway bands because they were mentioned on one of Anthrax’ liner notes. They joked that that was a great trade- Anthrax plays arenas and they got Shayne in return.

Oh, it seems like the Slayer show from this date is not in the pile of 4,000 tapes I have here in my collection… but I think I saw Ron Quintana post a pic of a stack of cassettes recently with that show in there. Maybe we can convince him to stop teasing us and post it! 🙂

Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians- Jonathan Swift’s, Boston Ma 8/3/85 xfer from 1st gen audio-DAT

Man, kinda slim pickings for today’s On This Date in History. Usually when I check a certain date on the audio list, there are about 30 things to choose from and something always jumps out at me to post. Not this time.

After digitizing this one, I am glad I picked it. It was a little muddy and guitars were distant, but I was able to EQ it and make it sounds pretty nice. The taper used a Nak Cm300- I had a set of them in the 90s and loved them. Robyn’s vocals could come up a bit, but otherwise nice. And it was 40 years exactly to the day!

Check out that concert listing. This show (w/Scruffy the Cat opening) for $7.50. Johnny Cash (Pre-Rick Rubin career resurgence) and a bunch of other cool shows at the casino.

Robyn Hitchcock and REM fans should subscribe to the blog or youtube channel. I have something REAL cool to post next weekend!

Sentinel Beast- Depths of Death Demo 1985 Transfer from master cassette tape Sacramento Thrash Metal

OK, back to regularly scheduled programming.
I listened to the Sentinel Beast album while folding clothes on Sunday, thanks to Jeff who posted a link on facebook. I searched youtube for the demo that I have had since 1985 and it wasn’t there. This demo must not be as common as I thought. I can’t even remember where I got this one. I don’t recall buying it from Dimple, which was our typical demo source in the 80s.
