I think I have mentioned that I have a ton of audio that I haven’t digitized yet. 4,000 cassettes, 2,000 DATs. That’s over 10,000 hours of stuff. I have some stuff digitized and on spindles- I just got around to organizing some of them and pulled a few to post today & tomorrow. Get ready for the onslaught of mediocre audio! Here is one of those old non-professional recordings from the mid 80s. It’s a legendary show, and they played forever!

Equipment used: Consumer panasonic recorder with internal mic
TLDR version: Tape was damaged, gets better at 5-7min mark.
Collections post first today, and the On This Date is going to be late! This one comes from my collection. I found this on Ebay years ago- I saw someone selling it and knew exactly what it was. The 9:30 club had a (somewhat legendary) semi professional video system with a Umatic camera and soundboard audio. A bunch of VHS copies hit trading circles back in the 80s of bands like Embrace, Government issue, etc.. so when this came up on Ebay, I wasn’t going to get outbid. Haha.
Then I went to play it on the other umatic machine I had and it would not play- the tape seemed completely damaged and victim of sticky shed syndrome (look it up), so I shelved it. Then, my friend Mark at FET Electronics fixed my good umatic machine and here it is. Would you look at that. Beautiful.
I need to contact the person who has the rest of these.

Mediocre Monday! Today is also high stress Monday, to the point where it is getting kinda silly. Oh well. After a week off, here is another on from Wayne Vanderkuil’s treasure trove. Great stuff, albeit a bit distorted due to the volume. Tomorrow’s post will be another Wayne tape that sounds really nice! I love that at the end of the tape, Wayne tells friends that they should bail from this show and head over to New Method to see Attitude Adjustment play. I don’t know who else played this show, but bailing to see AA is always a good call. It sounds like Scotty may have had a couple of pre-show beverages on this one. (btw, opinion expressed in these posts may not represent mine.. and may not even represent opinions of the people who said them, 35 years later…)

This is an example of how listenable one of these old 80s recordings can be, as long as it doesn’t get too loud. This one is pretty decent! Once again, from the collection of Wayne Vanderkuil. Thanks Wayne! The flyer shows that the show was put on by New Method, but took place at Own’s Pizza. The cassette shows that it took place at New Method. I checked with Wayne and he remembers this show happening at New Method, so that’s what I am going with. I love the part where Andy announces that they are doing an Exodus song and the band just jumps right into it for about 2 seconds.

Happy Monday everyone. Before I post anything that I did not personally record to the sac music archive, I check around to see if it is already out there in similar or better quality. I got this tape back in the 80s from Craig Hilmer, I think. There were a few of us who were huge CVB fans back then and we traded tons of the band’s live tapes. I saw that this show was on archive.org and figured there was no need to post this… but the one on Archive is a board tape, which I never even knew existed! This is an audience recording. Some industrious soul with more free time than I should matrix the 2 sources together.

It’s purely a coincedence that I am sharing a demo from Vomtorium on Valenties Day. It was just the one that happened to be next up and doesn’t necessarily reflect my views on love… but they might not be too far off.
This one is from Chris Eng’s collection. He knew the band so I assume he got it right from them. It did have a decent amount of hiss that I was able to improve with Izotope Rx8.
