The Polyorchids- Green River Tap Room, Winters Ca 10/4/19 Live UHD 4k

We made a last minute decision to bring the entire family to The Polyorchids show last Friday, which was great! But when the kids are around I attempt to multitask and the video camerawork is usually pretty lousy. That’s the case here. Not only that, but I forgot that I had the camera on photo mode so I recorded the 1st 25min in the wrong 4k mode, then I tried fixing it and recorded the next 15min in the wrong mode and in 1080p. Finally, the last 25min of this video is at the right settings. Incomplete because my 4 year old was cold and tired.
This is the 4k footage only. The middle of the set in 1080p is coming on a separate upload.
When I do this bad of a job with filming, I usually bury the video (never post) but they were so good and they did a great selection of covers that it must be posted, if only for the audio track.

Polyorchids- Sophia’s Thai Kitchen, Davis Ca. 8/1/19 Live 4K UHD with Rode Videomic Pro Stereo Audio

Man, I had to jump a number of hurdles to make it to this show, including taking a night conference call from my car while driving there… but it was totally worth it. You could feel how much the band missed playing together, and how much they enjoy it. They packed the patio at Sophia’s and everyone was loving it. This is probably their only show this year, so it was a can’t-miss for me.

2 NEW SONGS.

And I screwed up a bit at the beginning of the show, forgetting to hit record… then I had to stop and adjust audio levels. Camera gets a little shaky at times, as I was having a little too much fun. I need to remember that this new camera’s stabilization is not as strong as the 1080p canon cameras I have.

The Polyorchids- Press Club, Sacramento Ca. 12/27/18 Canon HFG40 Master

Since Justin now lives out of state, I try to make a point to attend any Polyorchids show that is announced. This was one of the best performances I have seen, and they played with a ton of energy. Sorry for the camera bouncing around a bit. I was rocking. and singing. Check out the new-ish album. It sounds amazing and the new songs are great!

I was pumped to see The Polyorchids after such a long time- I think the last time was at their album release show in April. Justin lives in Washington, so they only play a couple times a year now.
this show was special because they did not get to practice after a 5 month layoff. They just hopped on stage and went for it! Here is the performance, warts and all. It’s a bit sloppy, but they were still great.

I’m so happy that despite Justin moving away, the Polyorchids are still going strong. This was from one of their 2 CD release shows last weekend. They have a full length CD out now, and it is amazing! They played a 55 minute set with a bunch of new ones. Tony even sings one. Great stuff. Nice job by Junstin Hel on sounds- it’s a tough room to make sound good.

The Polyorchids- Blue Lamp, Sacramento Ca 12/14/17 LIVE Canon HFG30 Rode SVP Mic

So the Polyorchids only have 3 shows left (2 after last night) before Justin moves and they take a “long nap”. Last Night’s show at the Blue Lamp was so great. I got there late- I got to hear the end of “popgun” from the sidewalk out front. I only missed the first 2 songs. Sorry for the somewhat sloppy camerawork. I had to get my shit together as the show went on. They play at the palms and at cafe colonial soon- check them out.

The Polyorchids- Blue Lamp, Sacramento Ca. 8/31/17 Live Multicam

I had so much fun on my 50th birthday, and it all fell together perfectly. The Blue Lamp had a late slot open up on that day, and 3 of my favorite bands were available to play. So cool- The Polyorchids debuted some new material at the time, which ended up on their new CD. Great performance! Thanks for playing, and happy belated birthday Justin!

Man, I love this band. They have that genuine rural sound- it just sounds like woodland/winters, ca. to me. Kinda like Uncle Tupelo sounded like rural Illinois, these guys sound like rural sacramento valley. This was the best show I have ever seen of them and the crowd went nuts. It was like 1,000,000 degrees in the colony. Also, the colony’s PA is having some issues so vocals sound a bit blown out.

The Polyorchids- The Colony, Sacramento Ca. 4/1/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30 and Rode mic

There have been a ton of great bands in Sacramento over the years. I have counted locals as my favorites since the mid-80s, starting with Redrum and Sentinel Beast, then on to Bliss, The Groovie Ghoulies, The Knockoffs, The Skirts, and all the way to now with The Strange Party, The Moans, Little Tents, Dead Dads and tons more. Here’s another GREAT sacramento band who are relatively new to me. You must go listen to their EP on bandcamp- so great! There are no monitors at The Colony, so cut them some slack.
