Jello Biafra- Rodney on the Roq, KROQ Pasadena 1/10/82 xfer f/2nd gen cassette interview and demo

Today’s on this date is also early so you can plan your events later today accordingly.

This one is really cool- long interview with Jello and some LP tracks. I think some DK demos are also played- not sure if they made it onto a later reissue, but here they are from 1982.

One of the few good things about living in Whittier in the early to mid-90s was meeting a lot of people who had been in the music scene for a long time. I traded cassettes with some folks who had things like this. It would just come up in conversation at a concert “hey, I have this tape I got from a friend”. Or I would meet folks like Kevin Haynes, Todd Nakamine and Joe Hunter, who became good friends and are friends to this day.

Nite Owls- Ozone, San Francisco? 1982 xfer f/low gen VHS tape

Here’s another obscure entry from Scott Davey’s collection. Going through Scott’s tapes is quite a project- the vast majority are not even music, so I need to plug in VHS tape after VHS tape to try to figure out what is what.

This one is badly flawed for about the first half of the show- it pulls out of it at the 17 minute mark. I cannot find any information on this band, and google searches of the venue tell me that it was a disco in the San Fernando Valley? That can’t be right. If you know anything about the band or the venue, please let me know.

Black Dolls / Nubs- San Francisco 1/1/82 xfer from master/1st gen VHS tape New Wave Scott Davey

I am going to need your help for today’s Video collections post. The only thing I know about this one is that it took place on 1/1/82. At the end of the set, the MC says the band name but I can’t hear it clearly. Black Dolls? I can’t find any info on a band of that name. Please let me know if you know.

OH, and I included the opening act- a SNAKE CHARMER. You heard that right. Enjoy.

Defy- Demo Berkeley Ca East Bay Punk Band Early 1980s xfer from low gen audio tape

Man, this one is obscure. The only document that exists of Defy anywhere is their inclusion on the comp “Cometbus Fanzine Presents: Lest We Forget”. They have 1 track on there- a song called Prejudice.

This is the entire 8 song demo, which includes the following:

  1. Parent Ownership
  2. Prejudice
  3. Living Die
  4. Charlie Manson
  5. Religion
  6. Political Suck Machine
  7. South Pacific
  8. Confused & Refused
