Sad Girlz Club- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 3/5/22 4K UHD Complete Show

Here’s a much-anticipated set from Jake’s birthday show on Saturday. Sad Girlz Club were born in Sacramento, but they moved to southern California a couple of years ago. It sounded like they have not played a whole lot of shows since moving due to the pandemic, so having them come up here for this one show was a rare treat.
The set included old favorites from their Hard Feelings release, along with at least 1 new song that was released on a 7″ by Lavasocks records last week!

Bat Guano Fest 2020 w/ Yoohoos, Sad Girlz Club, Cory Wiegert, Cassette Idols, The Knockoffs, Joe McKinney, Brianna Carmel, Justin Pine, Sarchasm, Matt Crap, Well Placed Whoas, The Left Hand, Mark of Defyance, Danny Reynoso, and Tim Williamson!

There are a few “can’t miss” music events in Sacramento each year–
The Punch and Pie fest which used to happen in August, Danny Reynoso’s “Fuck Cancer” event in November, and this one. The Bat Guano fest has been curated by Ken Doose for the past 10 years, and it looked like this year would be cancelled due to Covid. Thanks to some friendly goading from friends, it was changed to an online event and it worked out really well. It also allowed past Bat Guano bands such as The Yoohoos to perform from Germany. The only thing that could have made it better would have been a virtual post-show hangout via zoom! Miss these guys (and gals).

Sad Girlz Club- Old Ironsides, Sacramento 11/8/19 Live 4K UHD F Cancer

So I was in south sac to work a bit and it happened that I could hit the Sad Girlz Club’s set on my way home- love it when things like that work out.
My mic is right next to one of the PA mains, and Shelby’s vocals are super loud for the start of the set, but then they seemed to go away completely from that speaker and she was only in the front mains. Travis was still in the side mains. Odd. Great set despite that, and it still sounds pretty good.

Lightweight, Sad Girlz Club, Danger Inc as X- Cafe Colonial, Sac 10/26/19 4k UHD

So the good people (person?) over at Punch and Pie put on one hell of a show at the cafe last Saturday. 1 out of town band and many locals teamed up to play sets of their favorite artists. This one paired Donny from lightweight on Guitar, Jessica (Vocals) and Dave(Drums) from Danger Inc, and Travis from Sad Girlz Club.
So, I need to apologize to Sean and the band- I was so tired, plus this performance was so good that I did not check my camera closely and did not start recording at the start of the set. So, I was filming away with the camera on pause like a dumb shit. I am SO SORRY. The 9 minutes you get is great though.

By the way, there is a reason why I am posting this one today. These guys (and lady) are playing at 924 Gilman TONIGHT. If you are able to make it, you totally should go to that show. This was great fun.

Sad Girlz Club- Phono Select, Sacramento Ca. 12/8/18 Multicam Sacramento is Burning release show

I have a funny story about this one- I brought my kids to the show (3 and 8 years old at the time) and they met Shelby. She was super sweet to the kids and gave them a kool-aid jammer drink (kinda like a capri sun, but Kool Aid). She also told them that she has red hair from drinking too many red kool aid jammers…
So about 25 minutes into the set, I am filming away and my 3 year old MUST PEE NOW. It was that damned kool aid jammer. So, I haul my still-running camera into the bathroom(stops and starts are BAD for multicam), they do their business, and we are back filming a few minutes later. That’s why you hear the audio switch to a lower quality source at about the 24:00 mark.
Amazing job by Tromster to make all of this work together.
Epilogue: My daughter saw me prepping this footage for edit, and she said “oh, that is the lady whose hair turned red from kool aid”. HAHAHA!! 😀

Sad Girlz Club- North Pole House, Davis Ca. 11/17/18 Canon HFG40 Rode

After spending part of the night at the Colonial Complex closing concert, I headed over to Davis to see Sad Girlz Club & Anime Aliens play. I was shocked when I walked in- I have been to house shows, but this was crazy! There were people crowd surfing and climbing across the ceiling while doing so. I heard that it is not usually like this, so I guess I just got lucky! I only got plowed into once and no one was whacked by the monopod, so I call it a successful night.
No zooms as I had the camera up by the ceiling and I was avoiding people flying at me anyway.
Thanks to Lys for asking the crowd to watch out for me, and to the people trying to keep people away from me and the kid there. What a blast.

Sad Girlz Club- Press Club, Sacramento Ca 10/18/18 Live

Sad Girlz Club was the main reason why I left the house last night, and I am glad I did. They gave us a preview of the new album that they just finished by playing the entire thing live. I sure hope a label catches wind of their greatness and puts it out. I could see them being labelmates with City Mouse. DIdja hear that, It’s Alive Records?

Sad Girlz Club- Blue Lamp, Sacramento Ca 8/26/18 Multicam with soundboard audio

Here is Sad Girlz Club’s set where they opened for the quasi-Ataris at the blue lamp in August. Man, they were great. I know I always go on about them, but they were really on at this show.
Before anyone gets on me about the imperfect board mix (I think it sounds great), I screwed up and forgot my rode mic so my options were limited. And what’s wrong with Shelby being up in the mix? I love her voice anyway.

Equipment Used: Canon HFG40 (x2) 3 Gopro Hero 4 silver, Sony M10 for the audio.

Thanks to AJ for the sbd mix (I begged him at the last minute to fix it up for me)
