Primus- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amp L.A. 12/12/93 DAT Master Live Bob Cock Yellow Sock

I’m listening to this again and trying to figure out what the hell is going on– it looks like Primus took the stage as Bob Cock and the Yellow Sock.. and it sounds like they at least tried to play acoustic. I read that this incarnation of the band plays lounge versions of Primus songs. Interesting.

Over the next few weeks (weekdays), I will be posting sets from the 1993 Almost Acoustic Xmas. On the night of Dec 11th, I was driving to grab dinner for the family and I turn on KROQ and I hear that they were broadcasting the entire show live on the radio! I listened to KROQ regularly back then and did not recall any advertising for the broadcast. I hauled ass back home and grabbed a DAT and started recording. I was broke back then, so I have these sets scattered over about 5 DATs. I think I only lost a couple minutes of one set due to tape change- General Public. I even was able to edit in the interviews from other sections of the tape. The Blind Melon interview is a sad foreshadow of their future.
Anyway, hope you enjoy these. I became a fan of at least a few of these bands through this broadcast.

Primus- Cattle Club, Sacramento Ca 8/26/89 xfer from 8mm Master Live Enhanced

This was my first time seeing Primus, and it was my favorite set without a doubt. They open with Spirit of Radio! About an hour into the set, they do an insane funky instrumental version of Possessed’s “The Exorcist”! (for those of you who don’t know, Larry Lalonde(guitar) was in Possessed in the mid 80s).

Corrupted Morals- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 7/17/88 xfer from master tape!

This was a memorable trip to Gilman. I remember getting down there late to see this show- I think this is the one that Dayglo Abortions was supposed to play but never showed, earning the name no show abortions.
Anyway, we were starving when we got there and CM was getting ready to play. So, I handed my camera to Chris Dodge who filmed the part of this set while we went to get pizza. You can see Chris interviewing band members on stage during the set. Larry also flashes the camera, which is pretty damned funny.
please watch until the end- Steve Vontill and other gilman nerds run around with the camera and dork out, gilman style.
