Vitriol- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento 8/29/21 4K UHD Live video Lumix GH5S Death Doom Metal

Finally, here is Vitriol’s headlining set from Cafe Colonial last month. This was a last-minute show since they were coming back from Psycho Fest and it was pretty well attended. If you want to go to their upcoming show at the cafe (yes they are coming back), you might want to buy tickets (ticket link in comments)

Solanum- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 8/29/21 4K UHD Live Thrash Metal Lumix GH5S Rode Video Pro St

Here’s a unique one- Solanum had their second guitarist come down sick before the show, so they played this one as a three piece. Sounded different but still great. If you haven’t heard these guys, they are one of the best thrash metal bands in northern cal. Out of the ones I have heard, I would put these guys, Psychosomatic and Unprovoked as my top three. But, you know, that’s just my humble opinion.
Also, heads up to folks who bag on the cafe’s sound… check this out. They have revamped their sound system and made a ton of improvements. It can sound pretty good in there! I used to be a bagger. Sorry.

Tentacult- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento 8/29/21 4K UHD Live video Lumix GH5S Death Doom Metal

I got to this show early (so I thought- there was no start time on the flyer) so I could grab something to eat. While I was eating (cafe’s food is highly recommended btw), Tentacult starts playing at about 7:45pm! That was a bit earlier than the usual 8:30 start time. I wolfed down the frybread and hustled into the performance area to catch the last 7 minutes of the set. I even had to shoot this handheld- my monopod was in the bag. Oh well.

Clay Wheels- N-Men Summer Sessions, Cafe Colonial Sacramento 8/21/21 live 4k UHD Ray Stevens Faction

Here is the Clay Wheels set from a couple of weeks back. It was great to see Ray back on stage and rocking. I think this might have been the first time he has performed since his bout with covid earlier this year. I was a bit worried that the place would be too full, but it wasn’t too bad. good show.

Clay Wheels- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca. 8/21/21 Multicam Skate Punk The Faction

Here it is- finally a new multicam edit from post-pandemic times. Huge thanks as always to Tromster for the help with the edits. For this one, we used 3 gopro hero 4’s- one on each musician and I was in the back with the GH5S. We set up a multitrack audio laptop to record future shows at the Cafe- one has already been recorded with more on the way… so better audio in the future.
Thanks to Ray Stevens for permission to film- I had not seen him perform since 2018 with the Faction.

Cement Eater- N-Men Summer Sessions, Cafe Colonial, Sacramento 8/21/21 4K UHD Live Skate Punk GH5S

Man. I know I complain about youtube’s slow 4k processing, but this is ridiculous. This one took over a week to get to 4k… for a 30min video. I uploaded Clay Wheels and it is ready in a day. Totally random.
Anyway, here is Cement Eater from Petaluma

Vacant- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento 8/21/21 4K UHD Live Skate Punk Lumix GH5S

I had planned to post this one last Sunday, but it is taking youtube over 4 days to process videos into 4k. It took so much longer than usual that I thought the video was “stuck” so I deleted it and started over. And waited 4 more days. I am hoping that another set from this show is ready tomorrow…
Anyway, when this show was announced, I had to a do a double-take when I saw the flyer. I don’t think I have ever heard of legendary Sac punk band Vacant play a show outside of the 1980’s. Happy to finally see them play- I missed out on the Club Minimal days. They even had Demo CDRs for sale!
