Misfits- Interview w/Danny Reynoso, Crest Theater, Sacramento 1/27/00
Everything is going to be late today, I needed to run a rebalance one the collections post and then my planned On This Date post ended up happening on July 4th, so I need to run a DAT to replace that one.
In the meantime, let’s share this one that Zoran sent me this morning. Coincedentally, I just saw Danny last night at the Pegboy show at Gilman.
This show was really well documented. I plugged my DAT into the soundboard and recorded the Groovie Ghoulies’ set, then was politely asked to GTFO with that thing before the Misfits came on. Luckily, the entire set was video’d and this interview exists.
This was an impromptu interview- they asked Danny to talk to Jerry about wrestling with very little notice. Way to pull it off!

Groovie Ghoulies- Crest Theatre, Sacramento Ca 1/27/00 xfer from Master DAT Audio Remix
Hey, Kepi announced a show at the Side Door on October 15- it should be a good time. That venue is really nice- it is Eric Bianchi’s home base so you know it’s gonna sound good.. and they are going to do the entire Appetite for Adrenochrome album with full band!
I figured I would post a Ghoulies thing today since I had them on my mind. Here is the time they opened up for the (fake) Misfits at the Crest! The mix was shockingly not great (Crest boards usually sound fantastic, so I brought up the guitar a lot. The drums still sound funny to me, but it’s as good as it is gonna get.

Alex Chilton- 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis Mn 1/23/00 xfer from DAT Clone Big Star Michael Jackson
I realize that my Alex Chilton posts are usually met with apathy, but if you have time to listen to one of them, listen to this one. One of the best AC performances ever, including a “cover” of a Big Star song(it’s his song) and a Michael Jackson cover! The setlist image for the post/yt video appears to only be for the second set. Alex is clearly enjoying himself- he rarely plays this long of a set.. lots of great banter with the audience and a great set list.

Barbara Manning and the Go Luckys- 2ndHand Stuttgart Germany 1/15/00 ltd ed CD rip Bruce Springsteen
I had something different planned for today’s OTD post, but I could not get the snare to surface in izotope like I thought I could, so you get this instead. It’s nice consolation.
Having booked Barbara’s US tour in 2001, the Steinbach twins (the Go Luckys part of the band) would always randomly send me nice things in the mail. This is one of them. I don’t know if they ever sold these as a limited edition CDR or just gave them to friends.. it’s not on discogs, so it hasn’t been sold recently.
This is a full band set in a record store. I don’t ever recall them doing Dancing in the Dark other than this show.

Fleshies- Capitol Garage, Sacramento Ca 1/8/00 xfer f/master audio tape Punk Alternative Tentacles
I ran out of time so you get a consolidated collections/on this date post today. I was on my knees on the floor, digging through Ken Doose’s tapes trying to find a specific tape and came across this one instead. There is some distortion that I did my best to EQ out.
Check out that Saturday night lineup- you could go to this Fleshies show, Go National at Cafe Paris, or Elvisfest with a bunch of great bands at The Boardwalk. What a time for the Sac music scene.

Mummydogs- Press Club, Sacramento Ca. 1/7/00 xfer DAT Master Roland MX-5 Rebalanced Thin White Rope
It’s been a while since I posted audio, so I decided to switch it up and post this Mummydogs recording today. This was from the era that I used a battery powered mixer to tap into the soundboard and mix the set live. That was a problem because it was loud in the club so it was hard to hear the mix clearly. On this one, I mixed the drums a little too high so I used Izotope to boost bass and guitar. Sounds pretty good now!
Mummydogs features a bunch of great Davis musicians, including Guy Kyser from Thin White Rope and Johanna Galos (Kyser) from Thornucopia. They released one great album on Frontier then disappeared.
