At long last, here is the final video from the LONG 6 hour mode VHS tape full of local bands from ken Doose’s collection. This is another set of 3FF from Daddy O’s. I checked around and I don’t see this one posted anywhere.
The band features Cory Wiegert, who went on to perform in many bands including current band The Blessing!

It’s a late one but it is a good one. Today is the Locals Only spotlight, and there are a lot of locals on this one. This is back when 98 Rock’s comps were great- so many bands on here who are still talked about today. Even my pals in the Helper Monkeys are on here.

Mick Martin Memorial Series #1: Takin’ My Time- The Best of Mick Martin CD and Joshua Demo
Now a special announcement. In cooperation with Dennis Newhall from K-Zap dot org, we are starting a series of posts focused on Sacramento blues legend Mick Martin’s massive body of work.
Mick was the heart of the blues in Sacramento. He was the co-founder of the Sacramento Blues Society and released/appeared on over 40 albums and compilations- starting in the 1960’s with the band Joshua and performing into the 2020’s with hs band the Blues Rockers.
Mick passed away last year at the age of 76 years old. Today would have been his 77th birthday.
We will be releasing 2 Mick audio documents every 2 weeks, for the next 11 months- that’s how long it will take to put up his massive body of work! We still don’t know what to call the series- Months of Mick? Multitudes of Mick? Or maybe just something like the Mick Martin Memorial series.

I figured it would be good to start with these 2: a “best of” which highlights his career, plus the Joshua demo from the 60’s, where it all started. Enjoy.

Joshua- Demo 1960’s featuring Mick Martin xfer f/band archive tapes Psychedelic Blues
This is the one that started it all for Mick Martin- the band Joshua.
Here is what Mick had to say about it (taken from a Sacramento News and Review interview): “The first band of significance was called Joshua. We played at the Fillmore and we were a psychedelic band, but we were doing blues.”

The Said- These Varied Carols Independent Release CD Sacramento
It’s time for our Locals spotlight! I can’t remember where I got this CD, it might be from Jay Knox’ CD collection that started this whole thing. Either that, or I picked this up at a thrift store. Not much info on band members or date, etc. I do have song titles, but I don’t have them with me. I’ll follow up with titles next week.

This is the last one from the first round of Guerin tapes that I digitized. That DSR1800 outputs audio super hot, but thanks to digitalfaq and friends like Nicholas Serra, I now know how to adjust audio input with that registry hack. So I will re-do all of them without brickwalled audio. I think that this one has at least 1 more angle to edit as well. Lots of work left to do…
The Freeze are one of my favorite bands, so I was super stoked to see them in Guerin’s tapes. There is no info on location or date, but it is likely around santa cruz in the 90’s/early 00’s. Hopefully Guerin can fill us in.

Doing the Video collections post early today. This one is from Ken Doose’s collection. He has this “buncha sacto bands” tape that is not labeled and has videos from Cory Wiegert’s collection that I did not get when he gave me his bag o’ stuff many years ago. This is one of them. Many more coming on this 6 hour mode VHS tape.
This is Cory and Gregg from 3FF doing an acoustic set at Daddy O’s. Cory went on to play in many bands including peace killers, dead dads, and now the Blessing. Gregg was also in Crawlspace.

The Sticklers- Boogie Man Video Single xfer f/master VHS tape Hawaii Ramonescore Punk
Ken Doose has a master video of this band and I had never heard of them. They were from Hawaii and they had a few releases in the late 90s/2000. The Audio/Video synch on this video is off badly. This is just a VHS tape with 1 song on it and some extras. And that’s all I know about that.

The Cavemen- Demo Help needed! Lost Media? Sacramento?
Here’s another mystery tape, this time from Dal Basi’s collection. What you see in the photo is all I know about the tape. Most of Dal’s tapes are Sacramento/stockton/bay area based. Could it be the New Zealand Garage Thrash band? They did play Sac in 2019…. Nothing shazams and the Youtube algorithm doesn’t know either. Feedback requested.
