Vinnie Guidera & the Dead Birds (Misfits)- Press Club, Sacramento 10/31/18

This is what got me out of the house- I am a hopeless Misfits fan. I was duped into flying to Chicago to see Danzig and Doyle play a “one time only” show, then paid WAY TOO MUCH to see The Original Misfits in Las Vegas. At least I used my nerd glasses to video that one.
So I was curious to see how Vinnie would pull this off. I mean, how good could a misfits set be with an acoustic guitar? The answer is DAMNED GOOD. This was awesome. I had as much fun here as I did running from security in vegas. Well done, sir! I hope you don’t hear me singing along.

Misfits- Interview w/Danny Reynoso, Crest Theater, Sacramento 1/27/00

Everything is going to be late today, I needed to run a rebalance one the collections post and then my planned On This Date post ended up happening on July 4th, so I need to run a DAT to replace that one.

In the meantime, let’s share this one that Zoran sent me this morning. Coincedentally, I just saw Danny last night at the Pegboy show at Gilman.

This show was really well documented. I plugged my DAT into the soundboard and recorded the Groovie Ghoulies’ set, then was politely asked to GTFO with that thing before the Misfits came on. Luckily, the entire set was video’d and this interview exists.

This was an impromptu interview- they asked Danny to talk to Jerry about wrestling with very little notice. Way to pull it off!

Danzig- The Stone, San Francisco Ca. 6/18/89 Master Tape xfer Sony Pro Walkman WMD6C Samhain Misfits

OK, time for an old man ramble. I had bought a ticket for this show well in advance, but then I realized that the show was on Fathers Day. A big group from my Dad’s side of the family went to the Giants game, and I went as well. After the game, I had some friends of my dad drop me off at The Stone.. at about 5 or 6pm. I hung out on Broadway street for HOURS, waiting for the doors to open.
Being there by myself was a huge risk, as I had my Sony Pro Walkman with me and security was pretty tight at the club. If I got caught at the door(or while taping), there was no place to me to take my deck. I would be stuck waiting outside. Luckily, I got everything in.
Show was PACKED so I could not get a really good taping spot, but it still sounds pretty good. It was a bit bassy, so I fixed it up a bit in Izotope.
After the show, I was supposed to get a ride with Mark Martin but I could never find him. I panicked and went with Greg Johnson instead. Mark called me the next day SO pissed off- they waited for an hour after the show, trying to find me. I’m still sorry about that.

Glenn Danzig- WVVX Interview, Chicago Il 11/12/88 xfer from 1st gen audio cassette Misfits Samhain

I was going to post a Roky Erickson video for today’s On This Date in History to make up for the delay on the Patreon Voter’s Choice that Roky won (more on that later), but it was already out there. Sigh.
This one should appeal to the hardcore Danzig fans- I traded with someone in Chicago back in the 80s- they would send me those awesome WXRT live broadcasts and other cool stuff taped off the radio. This is one of those- a Danzig interview when he was “up and coming” according to the interviewer. Classic.

Samhain- Mabuhay Gardens, San Francisco Ca. 5/11/85 xfer from low gen audio tape Danzig Misfits Punk

Well, here is something interesting. I have been a huge misfits/Samhain etc fan for 35 years– getting into them in early 1986, just in time to miss this show. I have never seen this show circulated, on any trade lists, or even heard a rumor of its existence until Eric told me he had it. This show doesn’t sound great, but it appears to be due to the sound in the club that night. When I EQ’d the show, it sounded like a pro walkman recording after I mixed some of the yuck out of it. This might have been taped by Verne Inhell, but no confirmation.
I really want to hear from The Fastbacks- one of my favorite bands! Why were you picked to open, I wonder. What an odd pairing- You are the least evil band I know. Any good stories out of this one? Any rock star tantrums? Man, I wish I had a recording of The Fastbacks’ set as well.

The Misfits and Necros-Community Cable Commercial Last Show Graystone Detriot 10/29/83 Umatic Master

This one is from Russ Gibb’s collection. I got this one off Ebay years ago and now that the good umatic machine has been repaired, it finally gets a proper transfer. This is a 30 second commercial for the last Misfits show ever, taken right off the original TV production master tape.

GLENN AND HIS COPYRIGHT MINIONS- PLEASE READ:
I know that you guys like to give out takedown notices and copyright strikes, but please hear me out on this one. This video is ineligible for me to monetize- Glenn is getting EVERY PENNY of streaming revenue from this. It also doesn’t show this Misfits performing at all- there is nothing to hate about this. I paid over $30 for this tape and I am getting nothing for it, so think of this as my gift to you. Don’t throw away my gift. OK? Thanks.
