Extreme Noise Terror- Chain Reaction, Anaheim Ca 4/3/15 HD 2 camera Multicam ENT

For today’s On the Date in History, I picked one that I didn’t digitize and other people filmed.. but we did have something to do with it getting created.
I met Ryan McVay at the 1984 concert at the Observatory in 2014. We became good friends and over time, he started sending up some shows where he and his friend (ID’d as “cameramam 2” on his posts) both shot separate angles. I would then arrange for punksnotdeadgr to edit the angles together for him.
It seems that Ryan never uploaded these multicams that we helped edit. I am not sure why, but here is one for apparently the first time on YT. Enjoy!

D.R.I.- Chain Reaction, Anaheim Ca 9/25/10 xfer f/master DV tape complete show DRI Dirty Rotten Imbe

I am late on everything today. We are grabbing another one from Josh Parten’s master tapes for today’s on this date in history. This time, it’s DRI from Anaheim in 2010.
I checked online and it looks like there are 2 other angles of this show, including one from my old pal Ryan from Vulture Video. It might make sense to do a multicamera someday.

Richie Havens- Tower Records, Anaheim Ca. 6/5/93 xfer from DAT Master Live Acoustic

One nice thing about living in L.A. was the sheer volume of promotional appearances by artists. There were constant in-store performances and special showcases unavailable anywhere else. These usually took place in L.A./Hollywood during my working hours, so I missed out on just about all of them… but this was one in Anaheim (close to home) in the early evening.
Richie was in town as a promo for the Troubadours of folk fest at UCLA. I went to the fest and taped, but a lot of it wasn’t great. I do have 1st gen video to transfer one day. He played the instore solo acoustic with no P.A. I was obnoxiously up front in full view with a namamichi CM300 shotgun mic pointing at him. It sounds pretty good, but since there was no P.A., the crowd applause in between songs was so loud that it blew up the recording. I just went ahead and edited the between-song applause out for everyone’s comfort. Trust me, you don’t wanna hear it.

Audio Live Performance

Rollins Band- KDOC Request Video, Anaheim Ca 7/23/92 xfer from master VHS tape Enhanced Henry

It’s Friday! Yaaay. Here is another nice quality KDOC Request video performance, courtesy of Todd Nakamine and his collection of VHS tapes. I had a copy of this, but mine suffered from screen jitter. This one looks so much better. Sounds great, too- the sound on that Vandals KDOC performance was so so, this one is totally dialed in. Thanks Todd and Gia!
Lots of respect to Rollins for walking away from performing music when there was nothing left in the tank, then reinventing himself in other areas. Maybe I can do something like that someday.

Wally George’s Hot Seat- KDOC TV, Anaheim Ca 7/23/92 xfer f/ Master VHS Tape Enhanced Justice Howard

Here’s a bonus post for you today- this was on Todd Nakamine’s VHS tape of Rollins Band from KDOC Request Video. Wally came on before Gia, which is pretty wild. Talk about going from one extreme to another! Bonus post because this is not music related, so I am breaking my own rules. Well, there is a dude in the audience wearing a D.R.I. shirt. Bonus psychic friends network commercial in there for you too.

Buffalo Tom- KDOC Request Video, Anaheim Ca 5/21/92 xfer f/ 1st gen VHS tape Acoustic live in studio

I had a choice of 3 really cool videos to post for today’s On This Date in History. I picked this one because it was quick and easy. I’ll get to the other 2 some other time- those VHS tapes were in a hard to access spot.

Here’s another great performance from the legendary KDOC Request Video TV show. It kills me that I lived 20 minutes away in Whittier from late 1992-late 1995 and I didn’t know this was on. I could have been taping all of them. Many regrets about those L.A. years- should have seen more shows, should have taped more stuff of KROQ, etc.

Babes in Toyland- KDOC Request Video, Anaheim Ca 1992? xfer from master vhs tape

It’s after midnight in this time zone, so I am cheating a bit and posting Saturday’s Video now. This is another one from Todd Nakamine’s collection of VHS tapes. It looks like he might have only caught half of the show because I see other, lesser quality versions of this on yt but they are 11 minutes long vs. The 5 minutes we have here.
Nice quality.

The Vandals- KDOC Request Video, Anaheim 11/14/91 Xfer f/ Master VHS Tape Enhanced Punk Josh Freese

It’s Friday, so it’s time for some videos. This one comes from Todd Nakamine’s killer collection of VHS tapes. These look SO MUCH better than the copies I had from the 90s. Features current Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese doing the ONJ part in Summer Lovin’. Thanks Todd! There are hundreds of Todd tapes here- we are just getting started with his stuff.

SNFU- Flashdance, Anaheim Ca 12/23/84 xfer from audio cassette S.N.F.U. Chi Pig

Here is the LATE on this date in history post. What an ordeal- I thought I had this ready to post this morning only to realize that I forgot to get it ready after digitizing. Then I went to prep it and I digitized the wrong side of the damned tape. So it was an emergency digitization at 5pm. Made it!

This On This Date in History project is almost done- I started in mid-January and I’ll quit this part after day 365. This was a hard date to find something you might want to hear- it was all posted before or not worthy of a post. This one seems to be somewhat rare, so let’s go with this. Not great quality but fans will enjoy it. There are not many SNFU sets this early on.
