Sister Double Happiness- Sound of Music San Francisco Ca 1/31/87 f/1st gen soundboard Tape Dicks Pop

today’s audio selection comes from Anonymous’ collection- it is a 1st gen soundboard of a Sister Double Happiness that Radley Hirsch taped. This mix was good enough to leave untouched, just like Radley likes it. Haha.

SDH was an Alternative blues rock band that existed from 1986 until 1995, formed in San Francisco. Its core members were Gary Floyd and Lynn Perko, who were in the band The Dicks, and Ben Cohen of the Pop-O-Pies.

Attitude Adjustment- The Farm, San Francisco Ca. 1/31/87 xfer from low gen soundboard cassette

OK, get ready for an onslaught of Shurtleff cassettes today.

Here is an attitude adjustment soundboard- this had to be one of the first shows they played after the Pusmort LP lineup broke up- they played their last shows in September of 2006, and a new version of the band was already playing shows 3 months later!
I think this tape was from the band. It is on an official Metallica- Master of Puppets cassette that they taped over!

Suicide- Wartburg, Weisbaden Germany 1/21/87 Audio Only xfer from 2nd Gen to DAT Clone Alan Vega

I get quite a few requests to post stuff through messages from the sacmusicarchive website’s “contact us” email. I try to accommodate as much as I can but I am always backed up with requests/projects. Poor Hernan asked me to transfer this DAT about 3 months ago and I told him it would be done in about 2 weeks. Whoops! Sorry Hernan.

D.I.- El Dorado Saloon, Sacramento Ca. 1/10/87 xfer from master audio cassette DI DxIx Casey Royer

Oh wow, it’s Monday already. You know what that means- another episode of Mediocre Monday! This is from the last show as last Monday’s post, and it does not sound great. This was back before we had good equipment, and this recorder could not handle the volume.
As for the show, it was a memorable one for me. I was a huge D.I. fan at the time (still am) and this was my first time seeing them, and (I think) their first time in Sacramento. It was the original classic lineup with Casey/Rikk/Alfie etc. Not only that, but they were opening for Social D and they played for over an hour! What a treat. I hope you can enjoy it despite the quality.

Pirates of Venus- El Dorado Saloon, Sacramento 1/10/87 xfer f/ master audio cassette Tales of Terror

Ah yes, it is time for Mediocre Monday! Today’s tape sounds like hot garbage but it is one of only 2 Pirates of Venus live recordings known to exist. POV had members of Verbal Abuse, Decry and Rat’s Ass (Pat Strattford) from Tales of Terror on vocals. Great band who imploded before they could even get going.
The funny thing is that I probably could have asked to tape through the board and been fine with it. I now know D.I. didn’t mind… but back then, we thought these guys were BIG stars and there would be no way to do that. Derp.
The venue had power issues during POV’s set so there is a lot of downtime in the set. Special appearance by Katie Parker and Izzy yelling into my mic during a stoppage.

Kilslug- The Rat, Boston Ma. 1/8/87 xfer from 1st gen tape Rathskeller Upside Down Cross Adolf Satan

Hi Everyone, it’s Kilslug Friday! Here is yet another Kilslug show from the infamous Rat in Boston. These shows sound like drunken parties, wish I was there.
In the early 90s, I found a cassette trader with a bunch of Kilslug master audio recordings so I snagged them all. It looks like only 1 or 2 are on YT so far, so you all get to be abused with Kilsug the rest of the week.

The Stupids- Apocalypse Monster Club AMC, Houston Tx 1/3/87 xfer f/low gen audio cassette Hardcore

Posting back-to-back today. This one is from Jason Ross’ collection. At this point, I am just grabbing handfuls of tapes from some of these collections and digitizing them and then checking online to see if it is out there. This one doesn’t seem to be online, so here ya go. I used to love this band in the late 80s.

Capitol Punishment- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 1/2/87 xfer from low gen audio cassette Fresno Punk

Collections post, from Wayne Vanderkuil’s boxes of tapes. We can’t figure out who taped this, it might have come from Chris Dodge.. but this was from Gilman’s opening weekend and it sounds really good. Like, pro walkman or quality boombox recording. I wonder if Radley brought some mics to record.

The first 4 months of Gilman had no flyers or calendar. Tim’s vision was that the place would be a place to be, and there would be no need to advertise. I don’t think many people showed up because I have a tape of Condemned Attitude/Attitude where Andy makes fun of the concept. Hence the opening weekend generic flyer here.
