VIDEO: Green Day- Sproul Plaza, Berkeley Ca 10/4/91 xfer from master VHS tape

Here is one from Arica Pelino’s collection that we were not planning to post at all, but a bunch of people saw the photo of the VHS tape with this show on there so here you go.
There was a problem with the camera and the video is so overexposed on the master tape that you can’t see them at all. I did a couple of things to try to get it to the point where you could see the band. First, I adjusted the video filters in virtualdub so it would capture it with less exposure and some contrast upon digitizing the VHS. Then I popped it into adobe premiere and worked up the rest. I should show a screenshot of the original so you could see how much of an improvement this is, haha.
Anyway, Maicon (green day brazil) sent over time stamps and noted that this is the first recorded performance of 2,000 Light Years Away. Thanks Maicon! And, as always thanks Arica!

Head- Sproul Plaza, Berkeley Ca 4/11/87 xfer from master VHS tape w/ Dave Mello Schlong Op Ivy Punk

There is not much info about this band online- this is not the pop-punk Head from Seattle who played Sacramento a few years back. This Head had Dave Mello on drums, but you can’t see him much in the video as an amplifier is blocking the view of the drums.

Stikky- Sproul Plaza, Berkeley Ca 4/11/87 xfer from master VHS Tape Punk

It’s a late post today. This one is for Wayne Vanderkuil, who has been under the weather. Listen to Arica and call the nurse, dude! We all love you.
Thanks for the nice birthday wishes. Unfortunately, my son (who had pneumonia) gave me his crud and it seems I am on the same path as him. Lots of relaxing going on around here.
Here is Chris Eng’s video of Stikky from that absolutely legendary day at Sproul- the lineup is nuts. This one is pre-Chris Dodge with James Porter on bass.

Vagrants- Sproul Plaza, Berkeley Ca 4/11/87 xfer from master VHS tape Lookout Records Punk

it’s a rare 2 day in a row lookout records post. Unlike yesterday, all band members stay fully clothed during this one, so no age verification required. Btw, if you want a chuckle, you should check out the comment section on that Blatz post from yesterday on the Lookout Records fb group. I will never look at a mic cable the same way again… or touch one.
People were pretty stoked when I posted a dark and grainy Vagrants video from Dave Mello’s garage a few month back. Well, here is one with better picture and audio for you. I think this is the Vagrants- I compared the 2 videos and the members look the same. As always, don’t be shy if I am wrong. You usually speak up- haha.

Slambodians- Sproul Plaza, Berkeley Ca 4/11/87 xfer from master VHS tape East Bay Punk

It’s Friday! Happy Friday you all. Let’s start the weekend off with a video from Chris Eng’s collection. This is the last set from the legendary show there. SEVEN bands set up, guerilla style and pulled off a day of punk rock without getting shut down by campus or berkeley pd. Amazing! Also amazing is the fact that Chris was able to film all 7 bands. Video equipment was bulky and heavy and battery packs cost a small fortune in the 80s. Kudos to Chris for filming these.
With my “1 a day” posting approach, it took me SEVEN WEEKS to get through this one tape of Chris’. He has hundreds of tapes to do. There are at least 6 or 7 people’s collections here to do, along with my own. Something’s gotta give. Would you all like to see multiple posts per day, if I can pull it off time-wise? It’s the only way to get through all of these.

M.D.C.- Sproul Plaza, UC Berkeley 4/11/87 Xfer from master VHS tape Enhanced Millions of Dead Cops

I don’t have much to say about yesterday that hasn’t already been said. Violence solves nothing.
Keeping with that theme, here is the “peace and love”-ingest dead cops band out there. Just like Jello and many of the early punk voices, Dave Dictor was right all along about so many things- Corporate evil, factory farming/food, police brutality and a lot more. But he really does preach peace and love at MDC shows now- it’s a great thing to see. Full circle for many of us.
Anyway, enough of the incoherent blithering- here is another Chris Eng masterpiece- MDC on the steps of Sproul Plaza at UC berkeley.

Boneless Ones- Sproul Plaza, Berkeley Ca 4/11/87 xfer from master VHS tape Enhanced Skate Rock Punk

Hm. I could have sworn that I had seen this one on YT before, but I can’t find it. I know that Max from the band posted some songs from this on facebook to promote their release of the 1987 Lost Cassette (available on Bandcamp), but nothing here on youtube.
This one is a pretty rare performance of the 80’s band lineup- not many videos of these guys out there. They have since reformed with new members and are currently active.

Electric Spaghetti- Sproul Plaza, Berkeley Ca 4/11/87 xfer from master VHS tape East Bay Punk

What a busy weekend. I drove 740 miles from friday afternoon-10pm tonight for 3 different events this weekend… and then I rush out to the studio tonight to screen record the Anvil DNA show/Live Stream and they just kept playing. I was wondering if they were going to play until Tuesday and they just wrapped it up.
Here is one from Chris Eng’s collection. Except for a couple of flyers from Aaron Cometbus’ flyer collection at Cornell U, I can find no info at ll about this band. I do not know who was in the band, they seem to have no recorded output. They seem to be active in early 87. Any info is appreciated.
