The Muffs- Brick and Mortar, San Francisco Ca. 7/18/15 Part 1

What a great show- stagedivers, crowd surfers and lots of pogo’ing. I thought that this performance was a bit better than Davis the night before. The place was packed and there was no decent place to video from, and multi cameras were out of the question. I shot this one with my HFG30 and Rode Video Pro from the far side of the venue. It still turned out pretty good. Be patient with it, I finally get the lighting dialed in about 10min into the show. Enjoy!

The Muffs- Oddfellows Hall, Davis Ca. 7/17/15 Multicam improved matrix audio Kim Shattuck’s Birthday

this was a super fun night. I had a bunch more cameras with me, but the stage was small and there was no place to put them that wouldn’t be in the way, so 2 cameras it is. It still bothers me that I never did a proper 4 or 5 camera shoot of the band. I had tickets to (what became) their last show ever and bailed out because plane tickets were too expensive… sigh

Anyway, I don’t pay much attention to youtube comments other than for entertainment at times, but the audio from the first edit was the source of A LOT of negative comments. I figured that I’d synch up the matrix that my friend Anonymous did. It sounds a bit better. It was a tough night for lighting- the odd halogens made the shoot problematic. It’s still worth watching. And the run of songs from about 18min in, for the next 40min or so is INSANE. Just great song after great song.

The Muffs- Oddfellows Hall, Davis Ca. 7/17/15 Multicam with Soundboard Audio!

First of all, I’d like to thank Agelos for the edit on this one. There was room for only 2 cameras at the show, and the one on the stage was being obstructed constantly by a photographer. Agelos did a masterful job editing the 2 angles together- thanks! Great show, the soundboard sounds great, but the mix really comes together about 10 minutes into the show. Thanks to Laurence for the great mix. Ronnie, I learned the next night that you are not too thrilled about soundboard recordings, so let me know if you are ok with this. Filmed with an HFG30 on monopod, and HFG10 on tripod side stage.

The Muffs- Satellite, Los Angeles Ca. 3/2/13 Canon HFM30 HD Live

I went on vacation to San Diego with my family in 2013 and learned that The Muffs were playing in L.A. at the same time I was going to be there. My and my friend Pete Markall made the 2+ hour drive to the show… it was totally worth the trek. They had not been playing live too often at the time- they played a show in SF in 2011 and this was only their 3rd show since then…
This was the only time I got to see them in their hometown, and it was probably the best(and longest) show I was able to catch. Very loose- they were having a lot of fun- at about 20 minutes in, Kim changes guitars. Ronnie: “Are you in tune?” Kim: “yeah, I’m in Tune, what the fuck”. Her comments on vinyl (and 8 track tape) at 43:00 are a must watch.
This is filmed with a consumer 1080p Canon camcorder, before I got my nicer equipment so it is a little grainy.
I also audiotaped the show. Hopefully one day this video will get an improved audio source synched with it.

The Muffs-Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco 10/29/11 Part 1 Punk

This was a fun night. The Muffs & The Fastbacks — 2 of my all time favorite bands — on one bill! Additionally, The Fastbacks have been inactive for a while.. so this was a rare treat. Filmed with the HF200 & stock mic, so audio isn’t perfect. This was Mark Murray’s request. Lance Davis might also want to see it.

This is part 1 only- you can find the rest of the show on Youtube

The Muffs- Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco 10/29/11 HD Master w/Neumann KM140 audio!

The Fastbacks played a VERY RARE show at Bottom of the hill back in 2011. Not only that, but The Muffs co-headlined! 2 of my favorite bands on one show! So happy. As much as I hate BOTH’s late end times, I went with “anonymous”. I filmed with my non-pro equipment at the time and he audiotaped. Here, for the first time, are the original HD video files synched with his Neumann KM140 mic audio. Nice!

The Muffs- Boardwalk, Orangevale Ca 4/26/06 DV Master Live video xfer

I plan to post a better version of this video- I have been trying to de-shake this thing for 2 days now and Adobe keeps on crashing. I think I have a soundboard DAT of the show as well.
Sorry for the shaky camera work- I was in the sound booth and I could not use my tripod. This was my first time filming the band and I was super excited. I had been a huge fan for years but was never able to catch them.

The Muffs- Boardwalk, Orangevale Ca. 4/26/06 Master tape xfer w/enhanced soundboard audio Main Set

I just got a new software program called plural eyes that not only synchs an audio track to a video, but it also stretches it to align all the way through the video. For those of you who have done this before, you know how maddening this is.. especially with analog sources. Anyway, I have probably over 50 shows that I can synch up the soundboard audio to the video now. Thanks to mr “full send” for the help on this. 🙂
The only downside is that the program allows export either into video programs I don’t have, or as a raw .mp4 video clip.. so if I shut off my camera or audio recorder, it splits it into 2. I will need to rejoin them in the future, but no time today. So you get 2 posts- main set and encores.

Muffs- WDRE “Underground Lounge” Live in Studio, Philadelphia 5/23/95 xfer from Pre-FM DAT Mix Maste

Sometimes when a tape is labeled “pre-FM soundboard”, it is just the live performance as it was broadcast, but taped through the system in studio. Not this one. You get to hear all of the chatter between DJ’s and the band, along with only some of the commercials and some silence (which I assume is a spot for local stations to stick a commercial in). A really fun listen if you are a Muffs fan.
but, BE PREPARED FOR BIG GAPS OF SILENCE.
Another Ebay troll/score btw.
