Saxon- Ace of Spades, Sacramento Ca. 8/23/15 3 Camera Multicam w/Schoeps Audio!

This one has a bit of a story. I went to the show to film opening band Discordia, and to ask Saxon if they would allow me to film. I was surprised that their road/merch manager (who was wearing an Infest shirt!) gave me the ok. So I set up the 3 cameras and start filming the show. During the 2nd song, the tour manager comes over (outranks the road manager) and says “you can’t film””well, you can film, but not the entire show.” at the same time the Ace of Spades security guy is yelling “PUT YOUR STUFF IN THE CAR”. So, I complied, and shut down. Of course the show was amazing, with almost the entire set being from the first 4 albums. Thanks to Agelos for the edit and to Anonymous 1 for the Schoeps audience recording. Nice! SO, here’s your 3 songs.

Saxon- Ace of Spades, Sacramento Ca 8/23/15 Schoeps MK4 Audience master Early Albums Tour NWOBHM

Ten tears ago, Anonymous 1 and I headed to ace of spades to see Saxon. This was back when Ace was pre-Live Nation, and were still somewhat tolerable.

So I asked the road manager/merch guy if I could video Saxon and he was shockingly OK with it.I was sure I was going to be shut down. Well, 3 songs into videotaping, I get shut down…but that is not the end of the story.

Anonymous 1 was there with his schoeps rig and made this amazing quality recording of the entire set. The show focuses on the early albums so this is a real treat to old school Saxon fans.

My 3 songs are also on the channel/archive if you want to see me get busted.

Saxon- Warfield, San Francisco Ca 4/17/84 xfer from master tape NWOBHM Metal

One more from Doug to close out the audio posts for the week- Saxon’s headlining set at the Warfield on their first headlining tour of the US. Like I mentioned before- I saw the San Jose show from this tour and I was a huge fan… until Crusader came out. It was still a great show and the start of set with Power and the Glory/Princess of the Night was awesome (even if they screwed up the end of PotN). It still blows me away that he got such great results in that room- all of my recordings sound like an echo chamber there.
Speaking of Doug, look at this absolutely INSANE run of shows for this week. You know it’s a good one when you need to bail on Saxon’s set in San Jose to make one of Megadeth’s first shows ever:
4-14-84 Berkeley Ruthies Megadeth Blizzard
4-15-84 San Francisco The Stone Megadeth Razors Edge Empire
4-16-84 Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Saxon Accept
4-17-84 San Francisco Warfield Theater Saxon Accept
4-18-84 San Jose Civic Accept (I left before Saxon)
4-18-84 San Francisco The Stone Megadeth Steele +1

Then he went to work the morning after- that’s dedication!

Saxon- The Stone, San Francisco Ca 3/29/82 xfer low gen audio tape Complete show! NWOBHM 1st SF Show

I don’t usually do “on this day” posts since I am not that organized, but I had this one already digitized so why not. This is Saxon’s first show in SF- I was just a bit too young to make this one. I caught them in 1984 on that Saxon/Accept tour, when they were touring Crusader. I would have preferred to see this set…
I think this one was taped by Verne Inhel- sounds like a Sony D3 recording. Very nice!
PS: If you want to hear a bunch of Verne’s recordings, head over to “Lord Pryderi’s ~ Metal History channel” on youtube. Great stuff, but typically only 3 songs from a show. So here is the full set of this one.
From Wayne Vanderkuil’s collection. He got this from Brian Lew, who probably got it from the record vauly.
