Chris Isaak and Kenney Dale Johnson- Live 105 Green Xmas, Hyatt Regency, SF 12/22/91 xfer f/FM tape

Here is one from Tony Philputt’s audio cassette collection. Phil Go donated these to the Sac Music Archive nonprofit a few months back. Thanks Phil!

This tape is a mystery. I searched every way I could imagine for Chris and Kenney at Live 105 Green Xmas and nothing comes up. If anyone has a date and/or venue for this one, let me know. Chris did say that “Wicked Game” was going to be on the next album… but where is Jimmy then? Heart shaped world came out in 1989, so this would put this at 1988. But I don’t think Green Xmas was even happening then. So many questions.

I know Christmas just happened, but listen anyway. Only one cheezy xmas number

The Almighty- Demos with no Vocals 12/21/91 xfer from studio cassette hard rock hair metal Scotland

While my old friend Scott Capizzano travels the world, playing drums for Handsome Dick Manitoba, I am here in the studio digitizing and posting his tapes. Hope you are having fun, Scotty!
This one seems to be rare. The Over the Edge track was released on the Powertrippin’ album on Polydor records, but the rest seem to be unreleased. Either that or they were renamed, which is possible since they had no vocals and possibly no lyrics.
Oh and btw, The Almighty were a Scottish hard rock/metal band.

Audio Demo

Pixies- Crest Theater, Sacramento Ca. 12/19/91 Audio xfer from DAT Master

Since some of you will be heading to the big arena tonight to see The Pixies, I thought I’d upload this recording from the first time they played Sac.
I don’t remember a whole lot about the show. Then only thing I remember is that I was seated with Jason, John and Mike and they had started their first song when this clearly drunk guy came down the row to his seat, and he thought it would be funny to spin around as he went, and he jostled the mic. You can hear it at about 2:10.

Pere Ubu- Crest Theater, Sacramento 12/19/91 audio

From Mike Siou (GaoBest), who recorded it with a Sony ECM 929-LT mics pluged into a Aiwa stereo cassette recorder, model unknown.

He arrived late and had technical issues, so this is all that is extant.

Bomb- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 12/14/91 xfer from 1st gen Soundboard cassette psych alternative punk

Here’s another Eggplant Gilman soundboard that I was totally stoked to see in the box of tapes. This band was like no others in the scene at the time. When I saw them for the first time, I had no idea what to make of them. Once I got it, I went out and bought the “hits of acid” album. Michael (Vocal/Guitar) has an unreleased later album along with a remix of Hits on his website…

Citizen Fish- 924 Gilman 12/6/91 xfer f/Master Soundboard/Aud matix Cassette Dick Lucas Subhumans

Audio collections post from Radley Hirsch’s awesome trove of board and studio tapes. This one sounds a lot like some of the other sbd/audeince mixes he did in the early 90s- pretty decent.
A partial version of this is online, but this one sounds cleaner since it is right off Radley’s tape, and this one is the full show. 75 Min is one of the longest sets I think I have ever heard of at Gilman. I got to see a 75min Victims Family set there in 1989, and Naked Raygun played 80min in 91. I can’t recall anything longer.
Oh, one last thing. I am solo dad for my 2 kids for the next 10 days. They go to 2 different schools- one in Orangevale and 1 in Sacramento. One plays soccer for her High School in Sac, one plays in Folsom. So I am going to be very busy and you might see more than one post at 9pm.
