The Boon- Candlerock Lounge, Sacramento Ca. 8/18/90 xfer from master tape enhanced

Here is The Boon’s set from that same show as The Rosebuds. The Boon were John Conley & Mike Yoas from Desario, Scott Wagner and I think the drummer’s name was Mike?
Anyway, this is the longest Boon set I saw, and we saw quite a few shows back then. My tripod was broken, so when it rested it looked like the band was playing uphill. I tried to fix that with Adobe, but you can still see the camera flopping around.

The Boon- Cattle Club, Sacramento Ca. 6/7/90 w/ Spiral Stairs from Pavement on Bass!

I don’t think many people have seen this one. The Boon include Mike Yoas and John Conley from Desario. Mike was friends with Scott (Spiral Stairs) so Mike asked him to fill in on bass. I think this might have been the only show they did with Spiral on bass. Sorry for the darkness. Blame the light guy. 🙂

The Boon- Drago’s Cafe, Sacramento Ca 4/24/90 xfer from master tape Sony WMD6C/ECM909 Mic Desario

This one isn’t great quality, despite Anonymous’ best efforts. The crowd was SUPER chatty and there is no bass, even after I tried to EQ some in. I decided to post it for 2 reasons: There were very few Boon shows recorded, and this is the only completely acoustic one I am aware of. Also, this is the only recording I am aware of from Drago’s cafe. Drago’s was in the building where The Golden Bear is today. It was Drago’s, then Cafe Paris and Cafe Montreal in the 90s, then a couple more incarnations before becoming the Golden Bear currently.

The Boon- Rehearsal, Sacramento Area 9/24/89 xfer from Master Sony WMD6C Pro Walkman Master Cassette

The Boon was John Conley and Mike Yoas’ (from Desario) band in the late 80s. John & Mike have been playing in bands for almost 35 years now- their first was the hardcore punk band Concerned Children Rebel (1987), then The Boon(1988-89), Ellie (1990), and I lose track from there. Desario has been going for about 10 years now.
This was a home rehearsal, recorded with Anonymous’ D6.

The Boon- John Conley & Mike Yoas at Kallie’s, Sacramento Ca 5/13/89 Xfer from master video

The Boon was John Conley and Mike Yoas’ band, long before Desario. Here they play at Kallie’s, which was an odd little restaurant/bar in east sacramento. It looks like most of the time, they were an oldies bar. How did you guys even get this gig??

The Boon- Oddfellow Demo 1989 xfer f/Master Demo Tape Desario Holiday Flyer Soft Science Indie Pop

Time to get deep into the archives with this next one. After John Conley and Mike Yoas ended their punk band, Concerned Children Rebel (C.C.R.) in 1987, they started up an indie pop band called The Boon. John and Mike are now in Desario. The Boon released a couple of demos including this one. Features John’s Sister Katie (of Soft Science) on vocals for some of the tracks here.

From Anonymous’ collection. I have a copy as well, but his was more accessible.

The Boon- Rocklin Jubilee, Rocklin Ca 7/3/88 xfer from master 8mm video tape Holdiay Flyer Desario

Aww, here is a fun one for On This Date in History. A year after our punk band dissolved, John Conley and Mike Yoas(Desario) teamed up with Mike’s brother Dan on drums and Tim Christian on bass. Even though they were playing jangle pop, John has the old punk rock shirt on. Nice!
Bonus footage of my cousin Tony at the beginning. Look at those baby faces!
