Chain- Harlow’s, Sacramento Ca 5/18/26 Schoeps Audience Master Recording Partial Set Fresno

A late one from my collection today. I went to Harlow’s last month to record Restraining Order for my friend ⁨@PunksNotDeadGR⁩ and this band happened to be opening. It had been a while since I went to a show and stopped what I was doing and really took notice of the opener. These guys were great! Classic grunge sound out of that grunge metropolis, Fresno Ca.

The quality changes during the recording as I was just testing recording levels while I set up cameras and tried to get permission, but it is still worth a listen. I will definitely check them out if they come around again. I even went to the merch booth to buy some music and they only had shirts. Boo.

The Wedding Present- Lodge Room, Los Angeles Ca 5/2/26 4k UHD Multicam with Schoeps Audio Full Show

Another installment from last month’s “Invade Southern California without a plan” tour. After recording The Dickies and Manic Hispanic at Garden Amp, I found a cheap but (according to reviews) CLEAN hotel in Garden Grove. I get there and it is the grossest, stinkiest, bodily fluid encrusted nightmare front for prstt*tion I have ever seen. After yelling at Priceline and getting my money back, I found a much nicer hotel.
Which means I did not get much sleep before heading to San Diego to see my son for a bit. I got back late and got to the Lodge Room even later. Mark Robinson was close to the end of his opening set and I did not have permission to do anything yet. I got permission from the band and the venue AND got set up in about 10 minutes total. That means no time for a soundboard feed but the schoeps sounds ok.
That guitarist Rachael was incredible to watch! Wow!!

Manic Hispanic- Garden Amp Garden Grove Ca 5/1/26 4K UHD Multicam Multitrack Audio Rancid 7 Seconds

Here is a recent one from me. Like I mentioned in the Dickies Garden Amp post, I was there to video The Dickies and was breaking down my stage gopros after their set when I asked one of the guys from Manic Hispanic if video was OK. They were cool with it so I put them back up there. Better yet, I asked the soundman if we could keep the multitrack runnin and he was also cool with it. I love it when it all comes together.

This one is decent. Some guys were standing in front of the gopros at times and the multitrack mix was good except for some challenmges with the snare and 1 vocalist. That is why they are a bit low in the mix, then a bit high. It definitely sounds better than the lady who screamed in my ear during the entire MH set.

The Dickies- Garden Amp, Garden Grove Ca 5/1/26 4k UHD Multicam w/Multitrack audio

Alright, get yourself a drink or something, because gramps is going to go on a while.
A couple weeks back. I had a rare (and I mean RARE) opening in my schedule where I had a 4 day weekend all to myself. I figured that it would be a good time to do my annual L.A. sweep where I see a show or 2, get gear fixed at Mark from Fet Electronics’ shop, and load up another car full of VHS tapes from Todd Nakamine.

I check show listings and see that The Dickies are playing Friday. Not only that, but their show was moved to Garden Amp, opening for Manic Hispanic. I love that venue! Huge thanks to the band for the help with the pass/access. I had an 11am appointment in downtown sac so I head out right afterwards… aaand I-5 is closed due to an overturned big rig. The show starts at 5pm and I am starting to sweat it.

I haul ass with no breaks and get there at about 6. Luckily they added another opening band, so I get there when the band before the dickies is finishing up their set. I set up the 3 gopros AND went up to the sound booth to ask (and get) a multitrack audio recording. That was probably a speed record for getting all that done.

The band were GREAT and this multitrack mix sounds fantastic imho. Not only that, but as I was pulling my gopros off stage, I learn that Manic Hispanic (who was Headlining!?) were ok with video, so the gopros stayed up and the multitrack kept on running for them as well.
