Man or Astroman? – El Dorado Saloon, Sacramento Ca. 10/26/97 Audio only xfer from DAT SBD Master

So Brian is bringing Man or Astroman? back to Sacramento next Wednesday. EVERYONE should go. They are super entertaining. I took my DAT recorder and recorded their show back in 1997 through the soundboard. If you like surf rock, space rock, comedy, vintage computer gear or people in silly suits you should totally go to this.

IGD- House Party, Sacramento 10/25/97 xfer f/band VHS Tape Enhanced I.G.D. Infectious Garage Disease

It’s Friday, so it’s video day! Here is another one from Mike Parisi’s VHS collection. This looks like a halloween house party. Camera person does a decent job of videotaping the show.

Chumbawamba- Opera House, Toronto Canada 10/20/97 xfer from DAT FM Clone Complete Show

This was supposed to be a collections post, but I had already digitized this one before we “discovered” the Green Day video posted earlier. So, 2 On This Date in History posts today.

This one is for my Sacramento friends- one of the leaders from this band, Danbert Nobacon, is playing the Cafe Colonial along with a STACKED lineup next month! If you only know this band from that one hit, you need to dig deeper. What a story. All that Tubthumping money helped to finance their anarchist collective (and causes) for years. Never lost sight of who they were. So great.

The Tantrums- KALX Live in Studio, Berkeley Ca 10/18/97 xfer f/ pre-fm master cassette East Bay Punk

And another one from Rick Sylvain’s treasure trove of cassettes from Friday Night Live show on KALX. So many well-known and not so well known bands have played this show.
The band consisted of Devil Doll on vocals, Pete Rypins on guitar, Andy Contreras on bass, and Joey on drums. They released a 7″ and 10″ in the mid’90s to 2000.
Good sounding one- well done, Rick.

Deftones – Le Divan du Monde 10/14/1997 (video/audio)

Baby steps of the band in Europe, and their first show in France. This is one of the earliest full-length recordings of the band outside of the US, intimate venue, crazy full of energy. The video portion ends during “Birthmark” – the show continues in audio

Cell Block 5- KALX Live in Studio, Berkeley Ca 10/11/97 xfer from pre-fm master cassette punk

Here’s another KALX live in studio thing from Rick’s collection of cassettes.
Dave Dalton- ? (I assume guitar)
Morgan- Lead Guitars
Tommy- Drums
and they mention Christopher, but no mention of what he does.

This was Dave’s band, after the Screaming Bloody Marys dissolved for the first time. They put out a couple of full length CD’s in the 1998-2000 time frame, and it seems that they had some lineup changes as their discogs listing makes no mention of these members (except for Dave).

Audio Live Performance

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes- Mancow’s Morning Madhouse Show, Chicago Il 10/97 xfer f/pre-FM sbd

When I pulled this from Barry Ward’s collection this morning to digitize, I figured it would be Spike in studio for an interview with Mancow. Nope. It is the full band performing live with interviews in between. I can’t pin down a date- they were touring with Incredibly Strange Wrestling, which I learned Spike’s wife Aurda managed. So I am going with late 90s/early 2000’s, since it was probably back when barry was in the band. Mancow says “their CD is out” which implies one CD out (1997).

The lineage is also mysterious. When you get one of these generic clear shell tapes, it usually means that it is from the studio- pre FM soundboard.. but this one has FM reception static at times. So who the hell knows, but it is a fun listen. Live mix improves after a couple minutes.

Blink 182- Water Street Music Hall, Rochester NY 10/1/97 xfer from DAT Clone FM Bcast Soundboard

Hey, someone else Told Me What to Do! Thanks to KhAoS 182 for supporting the Sacramento Music Archive nonprofit! If you want to support the cause, just go to the sac music archive homepage and pick out what you’d like. It’s that easy!

I got this from someone in Rochester who recorded this, Buck o Nine and Deftones live shows off the radio there. What a cool radio station. Be sure to listen to the interview at the end, when the DJ asks Tom about UFO’s randomly.
