NOFX- Warped Tour, Pier 30/32, San Francisco Ca 7/13/02 xfer f/MiniDV Master

Time for one from Guerin Myall’s collection. Guerin is the driving force behind gut wrenching productions, who released a few surf/punk videos back in the day. It looks like he is working on a new official release- looking forward to it!

This one is a short portion of NOFX’ set from Warped in 2002. The sun was pretty intense behind the stage so it is a bit dark. I hate shooting stages like this- promoters, don’t have your outdoor stages facing east. When you do, you have thousands of people (and cameras) looking at the sun in the late afternoon.

UPDATE: My good friend TM Doug chimed in with some context: “There weren’t any other good locations for the main stages on that site. The fire marshall wouldn’t let us put the main stage on the end of the pier where it would have to be to face west, and if they had said it was ok, we wouldn’t have done it for fear of the stage collapsing the end of the pier”. Now THAT makes a lot of sense! There are a few bands I could root for falling in the ocean mid-set, but I wouldn’t want Doug and my friend Greg Dean to be left to deal with that- haha.

NOFX- Catalyst, Santa Cruz Ca 2/28/01 xfer from DV Master- On Stage

Since I just had a quick meetup and tape exchange with Guerin, let’s do one from his collection today. Man, this one is great. NOFX fans are going to love it. On stage with pretty good audio- that pretty much never happens.

I don’t know why the thumbnail is so dark- the show is well lit, looks great.

NOFX- Side Stage no venue/date possibly Catalyst, Santa Cruz Ca 2/28/01 xfer f/DV Master

This one is from Guerin Myall’s collection. The tape is labeled “NOFX Side Stage” and that’s all the detail there is. Since Guerin’s home base was santa cruz and he was most active in the 2000s, I tried finding any shows in that time frame. This one came up. All you internet sleuths, please let me know if this setlist lines up with the 2001 time frame. Maybe Guerin can help out a bit.

There might be multiple angles of this show. Still working throgh digitiing all the angles- time to restart now that the video capture setup is working again.

NOFX- Chatterbox, San Francisco 3/11/89 xfer f/1st gen DVCAM tape Fat Mike Wreck Chords full show

HUGE thanks to Alfie Kulzick for sending this DVCAM tape to me. Even though the DVCAM tape appears to be transferred from the master tape in super slow speed, the quality is still pretty decent. The audio does suffer from dropouts, so I plan on playing around with the audio channel settings to see if I can make it any better.. but first priority was to get it transferred ASAP.

Some of the other bands on the tape suffer from tape damage- it seems that the damage was on the source tape and not the DVCAM. If you see any major glitches or dropouts on this transfer, please let me know. I did the ol’ ffwd/rew thing to try to ensure the tape was as good as it can be. The picture was super clean for a tape this old.

Alright, back over to VHS.

NOFX- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 6/25/88 xfer from master soundboard cassette

Here’s another one from Gary Shurtleff’s collection. Gary was one of the guys who would tape off the board occasionally at Gilman. He was very active in 1988. This may be one of the first soundboard recordings of the band- I don’t see any others on YT.

I screwed up the “On This Date in History” post and I need to get going, so that will happen later. Let’s do this bonus post first.

Speaking of getting going- if you are out today, please be careful.
