Michael Franti and Charlie Hunter- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 9/15/90 xfer from 2nd gen VHS Enhanced

I don’t have much time today, so here’s a short but rare clip.
This was Michael Franti, post- Beatnigs and before Spearhead. Joining him on guitar is Charlie Hunter, who went on to do some interesting stuff as well.

I also have a master soundboard tape of the show, so if anyone wants to synch them up, let me know!

They played a short set, opening for Chumbawamba and Neurosis.

Chumbawamba- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 9/15/90 xfer from 8mm master

This was a special show- Chumbawamba making their first west coast appearance, with Neurosis opening(I thnk, if I remember correctly) and Eve Libertine/Son in the first slot. We have 1 other angle of this show and a THIRD angle was just discovered. Also “Anonymous” taped the show through the soundboard and it sounds nice. Maybe someone will edit it together one day! 🙂

Neurosis- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 9/15/90 xfer from soundboard master cassette

So Gilman soundboards were always a hit and miss type of deal. Then they got a new 16 channel board in 1989? and everything sounded WAY better. This mix slides around a bit but everything is there. I was surprised to see that this wasn’t on YT yet.

Neurosis- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 9/15/90 xfer from 2nd gen VHS enhanced

Here is the neurosis set from 9/15/90. It is pretty distant- the filmer did not zoom in much. At least the crowd was into it.

2nd gen VHS tape from John Scharpen

I do have a nice soundboard master recording of the set, if anyone wants to take a run at synching the 2 sources together

Chumbawamba- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 9/15/90 Multicam with soundboard audio xfers f/ Master enhance

Here is one that I have been trying to get done for YEARS. I have had 2 video sources (my master and one shot from the soundbooth) plus a master soundboard for many years. We recently found a stage angle and we thought that we had a way to get the full show from that angle, but it appears to be gone… so what we have here is:
3 camera multicam for the first 5ish minutes
2 camera multicam for the next 40 minutes.
Just my angle and the soundboard audio for the last 5-10min.

Dealing with these analog audio & video sources makes it a nightmare to synch, so I wanted to thank King Bean for the soundboard to my video synch, and Liam Dennis for the multicam edit from there. What a team!

Neurosis- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 9/15/90 xfer from 2nd gen VHS tape w/ Enhanced Soundboard Audio

There has been so much chaos at work and with home schooling today, I forgot that I had not posted anything.
Here is another collaboration with King Bean. The video quality isn’t great, but it isn’t bad either.. AND it is early Neurosis at Gilman (opening for Chumbawamba!) AND the soundboard quality is pretty good. The audio gets really good at about the 18 minute mark.
