Expolited- Living Room, Providence RI 1/27/88 Xfer from master Juni Bravo Archive

Thanks Randy Everend- venue is Living Room, Providence RI 1/27/88 JUNI BRAVO ARCHIVE: I bought a bunch of live VHS tapes of Ebay about 6 months ago. I bought them mainly for a Bad Religion Multicam from 1988 that was uncirculated, but I got a while box of VHS tapes. The tapes were intriguing enough for me to try to find out who Juni is- it turns out that she was a Video archivist from the mid- to late-80s based in San Diego & texas. She followed the Exploited on tour in 1988 and produced the “Anarchy in the USA” VHS tape for them. She passed away a couple of years ago and (unbeknownst to me) some guy was selling her stuff off. I decided to post the stuff that was OK to post publicly to be sure Juni got her due, and to let fans of the band see this stuff- there is some gold in here. I also NEED YOUR HELP with some of this stuff. The tapes were poorly labeled so I don’t know who some of the bands are, and I don’t know most of the venues. Any help identifying stuff is appreciated.

7 Seconds- The Boathouse, Norfolk Va. 7/27/88 xfer from unknown gen VHS tape

I’m trying to mix it up each day and provide a mix of audio and video. I love seeing 7 Seconds shows when they are on tour. I don’t know why, but the Sacramento shows they played over the past 10 years did not have the same crowd energy as these. This one is a lot of fun to watch- the crowd and the band are totally into it!
The guy who filmed this seems to have posted the Circle Jerks set from this night, but not the 7 Seconds portion. I wonder why. I will be forever bummed that the Circle Jerks did not give me permission to film that June 1988 show. This guy must have had connections!

Dokken- Arco Arena, Sacramento ca 1/24/88 xfer from master audio cassette Aerosmith

Here is the last Jim Edwards recording for now. Let’s hope that he uncovers some more tapes- he mentioned that there may be more.
This is Dokken’s opening set for the Aerosmith show that I posted a couple of weeks back.
Someone on youtube was asking about this set- he said that Dokken and George Lynch were as far apart from each other as possible during the show. It must have been a bummer to be dysfunctional right when you were seeing some popularity.

Aerosmith- Arco Arena, Sacramento Ca 1/24/88 xfer from master audio cassette

I am usually not good about posting stuff on the anniversary of a performance, but I did this one for a couple reasons:
First, Jim Edwards recently reached out to me and let me know that he taped some shows around Sacramento back in the 1980s. I have 2 tapes with 3 bands so far, with(hopefully) more to come. Thanks Jim! This is one of those 3 sets.

The second reason is a bit more personal. Today is my Mom’s birthday, and she would have been 73 if she was still alive. She passed in 2006 (at 55, younger than I am now) due to cancer. She was not married in ’06 and I am her only child, so it was me and my aunt (and another friend) taking care of her for the last year… so I got a front row seat into the whole diagnosis/treatment/hope/decline spiral. Don’t smoke, kids.
Aerosmith was her favorite band- she would crush on Steven Tyler and she would see them whenever they were in Sacramento. In fact, I bet she was at this show.
This is the first hour of the show. Jim thinks he has part 2, so I will share that once it is found.

Christ on Parade- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 1/24/88 Live Soundboard East Bay Punk Audio Only Remix

OK, finally back to it. Expect a bunch of OLD remixed soundboards from the bay area in the next week or so.
The first one is a short one from Eric Mcintire’s collection. It looks like I have a longer version of this show from the old 1980’s tape trading days… so I’ll get that one up someday. CoP were one of my all time favorite bands- happy that so many tapes exist during my favorite “mind is a terrible thing” era.

Attitude-924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 1/16/88 Turk St Studios SF 1/17/88 xfer f/ VHS Adjustment Condemned

Today’s post comes from Gary Shurtleff’s collection. I helped to film this one- the part I shot is about midway through the Gilman set- I think Wayne filmed the stage angle, and then I did some of the show while standing on a chair in the crowd. They let me borrow the camera for RKL’s set, which is how I filmed that show. I never had a decent copy of this one- I was so happy to see it on one of Gary’s tapes.
They sold this through MRR and Flipside and it has the Gilman set plus a short bit at the end from Turk St. Studios the next day.

R.K.L.- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 1/16/88 xfer from VHS Master Live Enhanced

Here is the second concert I ever filmed. I did not have a camera yet, but Andy Andersen & Wayne Vanderkuil rented a camera to record Attitude and they let me borrow it for RKL’s show(thanks guys). Special thanks to Jason Ellis for loaning me a used VHS tape that he had in the car so I could tape the RKL master over the top. PUNK ROCK.
Btw, I still don’t have a clean copy of that Attitude show…

Neurosis- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 1/2/88 xfer f/low gen VHS tape

It’s 7pm and you haven’t heard from me. What is up with that? It was a busy day. Got to go to DMV.. enough said.

I think that this is another Steve Von Till recording. He did a few shows early on and then started playing in bands instead, haha. My tape cuts off mid-set. I don’t know if he has the entire thing. Maybe we’ll find out when I pick up his collection someday.

I am pretty sure this is 2nd gen

Final Conflict- 924 Gilman, Berkeley 1/2/88 xfer from low gen VHS tape Enhanced Hardcore

As discussed yesterday, here is the Final Conflict set from Gilman. This one looks a little darker than the Half Off, it just might be due to Ron wearing a black shirt making it seem that way.
here’s what I wrote yesterday about this show:
Wayne Vanderkuil, our long-time friend and contributor to the archive, sent a box over with a few VHS tapes earlier this week. One of them had this show- I have had this on VHS since the late 80s, but this copy is way cleaner. We think it is off of a 1st gen copy, but not 100% sure so we’ll call it “low gen” for now.
I am surprised that I don’t have the soundboard tapes from this show. It seemed that every Gilman show was taped back then… (edit- there are board tapes in Wayne’s collection, so we’ll probably repost this once we get to those tapes… and if the mix is decent)
This video was super dark- I think it was filmed with one of those external cameras cabled into a portable VCR- when people move, they look see through. EARLY home video tech. I was able to improve it quite a bit with Adobe and Neat Video. Thanks Wayne!
