Fastbacks- SPF30, Alki Beach, Seattle Wa. 8/11/18 Multicam w/Soundboard audio!

Man, this one was a close call. I worked to get permission to film and as I was getting ready to set up the 2 gopro cameras, a stage security guy (who saw me spend 5 minutes getting the cameras ready) said “you can’t put those onstage”. I kept my cool and explained my situation, and he asked his boss and I was able to get them onstage at the last second!

Thanks to Derek Purtell for the soundboard synch to my main angle (and blend back to Audience at the end)

The Fastbacks- Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco 10/29/11 HD Master w/Neumann KM140 audio!

First off, check out that thumbnail. That is the best thumbnail EVER. Kurt is a rock god. Anyway, The Fastbacks played a VERY RARE show at Bottom of the hill back in 2011. As much as I hate BOTH’s late end times, I went with “anonymous”. I filmed with my non-pro equipment at the time and he audiotaped. Here, for the first time, are the original HD video files synched with his Neumann KM140 mic audio. Nice!

Thanks to Derek Purtell for the synch!

Live Concert Video

Fastbacks- Cascais Pavillion, Lisbon Portugal 11/25/96 xfer from DAT Clone w/Vedder encore Pearl Jam

Here is the last Fastbacks post for now. There’s a lot more in the collection over here, so stay tuned. At the rate of 1 post per day, it may take a couple years to get to it.
I did not realize that these were the last shows of the Pearl Jam tour. I happened to pull out the T-Shirt from the tour and it ends with these 2 Lisbon shows. This one is the very last show, and it features Eddie Vedder doing an encore with the band. Cool.

Fastbacks- Cascais Pavilion, Lisbon Portugal 11/24/96 xfer DAT Clone Full Concert Pearl Jam Tour

There was a photo posted to the Pacific Northwest Music Archives group of the Fastbacks actually performing at this show, but I can’t find it anymore. It’s probably for the best, I’ve heard that the photographer is a bit sensitive with the use of his photos. I used the concert poster instead.
It’s pretty cool to hear the band playing in such a huge venue- it’s got that “big concert hall” sound. Eddie introduces the band.

Fastbacks- Vera, Gronigen Holland 11/5/96 xfer from DAT Clone Pearl Jam No Code Tour

Following on yesterday’s The What post, here is the Fastbacks’ headlining set from that same night. This was one of the few (only?) one-off headlining shows for the Fastbacks while opening Pearl Jam’s No Code European tour. This is the longest set I have ever heard of the band playing- I have 30 live shows and this is the longest (sans soundcheck).
Sound quality is not the greatest- I did everything I could to help- I boosted the highs +2 in EQ plus I popped it into Izotope RX8 and tried to push the guitar +5…. the problem is that there is not much guitar there. Those sonic studios/coresound mics are decent when you are close to the stack/line array but if someone is blasting stage volume (KURT!), you won’t get it on the tape.
Still a fun, listenable show.

Fastbacks- Electric Factory, Philadelphia Pa 6/19/96 xfer from Master Audiocassette/DAT

My friend Derek Purtell had asked me to send him some fastbacks shows, and this one was such a good performance that I figured I would post it today. There’s nothing quite as fun to listen to as a fastbacks set when they are “on”.
I think they are opening for Pearl Jam here, but I can’t find any info online about the show. They mention being “another Seattle band” at the beginning of the set.
Whoever taped this did a really nice job, given the gear. The old analog D3 was the lowest end pro walkman you could get.

The Fastbacks- The Casbah, San Diego Ca. 11/5/94 xfer from 8mm Master w/DAT Audio LIVE

Man, I can’t believe that I have not posted this yet. I have been a big Fastbacks fan since the late 80s, so I drove from my home in Whittier to San Diego to see them at the Casbah. It was a great show, but the audio on the video is terrible. I have a DAT audience recording that’s way better than this. Hopefully one day we will be able to put them together.
UPDATE: Thanks to Derek Purtell, who answered my plea for an audio/video synch! Nice job, and the internet is awesome.

The Fastbacks- Blind Pig, Ann Arbor Mi. 8/11/93 xfer from 2nd gen audio cassette Live

The Fastbacks are one of my all-time favorites and a band that I feel doesn’t get nearly the love they deserve. Here is a show from the legendary Blind Pig in Ann Arbor Mi.
The recording is clear but it was lacking in low end. I had to boost the hell out of the lows, and drop the mids and highs to get this result. Just imagine what it sounded like before! Yikes!!

Fastbacks- Off Ramp Cafe, Seattle Wa 1/6/91 xfer from 4th gen audio cassette Subpop Punk

I miss the Fastbacks- I even emailed Kurt to see if there was any chance they were going to play anytime soon. I didn’t hear back :-). Oh well, it was worth a try.
This is a decent audience recording of the band. Sounds like a Sony D3 recording to me. Very listenable but not perfect.
