M.D.C.- The Farm, San Francisco Ca 8/17/86 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette

Yet another one from the Vanderkuil treasure trove today. Thanks to Radley Hirsch for mixing, recording, and sharing with Wayne (and us).
This one starts out with a LONG, entertaining monologue from Dave. Music starts at 6 minutes in, and the mix gets good at about 10min. Short set- 25min including the 6min of no music.

B.G.K.- The Farm, San Francisco Ca 8/17/86 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette BGK Holland

This tape comes from Wayne Vanderkuil’s archive, and was mixed/taped by Radley Hirsch. Radley gave Wayne a copy- thanks Radley! This is the original mix- I didn’t do a thing to it. The mix gets pretty good as the show progresses.
I know there was a multicamera video of CCM from this show- I wonder if there is a BGK one as well.

7 Seconds- Chicago, Il. 8/17/86 xfer from fair quality VHS tape Live The Metro?

Man, there are so many things wrong with this video and I spent way too much time trying to fix them. But it is one of my all time favorite sets by the band, and there are not many vids with this lineup. That looks like Joe Bansuelo on bass, and I don’t know on guitar.
So I got this in trade in the late 1980’s and back then, if you got a dub of a VHS tape that was remotely watchable it was amazing. I had a memory of the quality being WAY better on this until I popped it in to digitize it. Yikes. Plus, you have that superimposed “D” that is annoying as hell, which was on the source tape. The guy’s trade list had “D” in the comments and I was like “I wonder what that means”. OH.
I tried to fix the picture but it is way too overexposed. I remixed the audio and de-hum’d it in izotope and then it would not synch back up properly. So here it is, warts and all. No apologies- it is a great set.

Sentinel Beast- El Dorado Saloon, Sacramento Ca. 8/13/86 xfer from Beta Master

Here is Sentinel Beast’s opening set for Megadeth and King Diamond. This is yet another show that was on that beta master tape, from Boston Marc.

Recorded by: Boston Marc
Equipment Used: Old beta camcorder

Here’s the backstory on the whole thing:
So I am probably going to go on forever about this one. I knew of a guy who filmed concerts in Sacramento back in the mid-80s. In fact, I gave him $20 to film my old punk band in 1987. I have been searching for this guy for YEARS. I was happy to reconnect with my old friend Jeff Maxwell a while back, and he remembered him but only had a first name- Mark.
So I was hanging out with Mike Parisi and I mentioned my search for 80s video guy, and he connected me to Mark Horner(formerly “mark the dark” of Arson), who told me he knew the guy! He gave me his name and number and I “cold called” him. It turns out that he has been wanting to get his videos on the internet, and Sac Music Archive sounded like a great place to do it! Thanks to everyone for making the connection happen!
So we hit a snag- he could not find the tapes. He finally found 1 of the tapes- a 30 year old BETA (not VHS) tape that was recorded in EP mode… and it looks AMAZING considering the age and equipment back then. WOW! Thanks Marc for filming and for loaning this to me. More to come.

Megadeth- El Dorado Saloon, Sacramento Ca. 8/13/86 xfer from Beta Master Tape!

Here is a much-improved transfer of this Megadeth show. I know that this one was well-circulated from my VHS dub of this, that I acquired in the 80s. This one is right off that master. Looks great!

King Diamond- El Dorado Saloon, Sacramento Ca. 8/13/86 xfer from Beta master tape

and finally, here is what exists of the King Diamond set. I will ask Marc why this is so short, when I drop the tape off today. I bet he got shut down.

False Liberty- New Method, Emeryville Ca 8/2/86 master audio cassette Seattle Hardcore Sunn O)))

It’s Mediocre Monday! Woohoo! Here is another time capsule recorded by Wayne Vanderkuil, from New Method once again. Recording quality is a bit rough, but where else are you going to hear a False Liberty tape from a warehouse squat(with beer being served from a detached bathroom) in 1986?
False Liberty were a Hardcore Punk band from Seattle. Greg Anderson (Southern Lord Records co-founder, Sunn O))), and many more) was on vocals, Justin Vaccaro on guitar, Pete Holden on bass and Victor Hart (Brotherhood) on drums.
It doesn’t sound that bad, all things considered.
I love Wayne’s comment “oh wow, they sound like DRI” after the first song. Indeed.
