The Queers- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca 10/5/21 4K UHD Live Joe King

Last Tuesday, I was planning to shoot my first multicam show in 4K. I bought some used Gopro Hero 5 during the pandemic and I am even building a new server to handle the workload of 4k multicam editing.
So I get to the show and start to get set up… and I realize I brought the wrong gopro batteries. I left the ones for the Hero 5 on my desk at home, 25min drive each way. So you’ll eventually get a 2 camera 4k multicam- this angle and a shot from the back with the Canon HFG50.
I don’t know what it is about the queers live, but they play so loud that I can’t make out the songs. They will be halfway through a song and I’ll be like “oh yeah, I know this one”. It not the sound in the club- my audience mic sounds fine. My ears must not like all that midrange.
This one is the makeup post for yesterday- this weekend has been so busy between aftershock and family, I had no time to post. 1 more is coming today.

Black Crosses- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 10/5/21 Panasonic Lumis GH5S 4K UHD Live

Black Crosses are from Sacramento- they have been around for a while. I recall them opening the Jello Biafra show on St. Patricks day almost 5 years ago, I can’t seem to find any official releases online by them. Features Jasson Jess on guitar and vocals.

Danny Reynoso- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 10/5/21 Solo set with The Knockoffs, Secretions Songs GH5S

First off, here is a PSA for you- you will want to either subscribe to the http://www.sacramentomusicarchive.com website email alerts list, or join the sacramento music archive facebook group. Just today, one of our friends posted a Misfits set from Aftershock this past weekend. You’re not going to hear about it on the 3 cameras and a microphone YT channel, so go check it out there!
So, what does this have to do with my good friend Danny? He opened for Bobby Steele’s (Misfits) band The Undead solo back in 2018. In fact, I think this show and the 2018 show may be the only ones he has done solo.
Fun set which includes choice covers and some songs from his bands. The biggest crowd reaction came during “3 Chords and a F*ck You” (Secretions), which was cool to see. Man, their popularity has endured.

Lamonta- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 10/5/21 Live 4K UHD Pop Punk

I went to Holy Diver for the first time since the pandemic hit and it wasn’t too bad. I was worried about ventilation in that small room but they have 2 huge industrial fans circulating air. I felt relatively safe with that and a mask on.
Lamonta are one of my favorite newish bands out of Sacramento. Very well written pop punk and Kyle Olson can sing in key- always a plus. I was surprised to see that they released a vinyl album during the pandemic. I’ll put their bandcamp details in comments in case you want to check it out.
As an aside, I finally used that new 10-140 lens. It works great for a small club. I see a little grain in the video, but I might just be super picky.

if I wasn’t clear, you should really check these guys out.

Ross the Boss- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 2/14/20 DPA4061 Audio Master FULL Manowar Hail to England

What a show last night. Manowar was one of my favorite bands when I was in high school, and I never had a chance to see them perform. With Ross the Boss(original guitarist and songwriter) coming to town AND playing my favorite Manowar album in its entirety, I couldn’t miss it. Great show- a few from the new Ross the Boss band, a few from other Manowar albums including my favorite song, Battle Hymns. So happy they came to Sac for the first time ever.

Ignite- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 5/16/19 Canon HFG40 & Rode Videomic Pro Stereo

So this was supposed to be a 5 camera multicam, but I moved all day that day and was totally drained when I got to the club. I brought 5 cameras and found a way to screw everything up except for this one. On the bright side, it sounds pretty good. My friend Brian Kast gets a shout-out for wearing a 20 year old shirt to the show.

Direct Hit! – Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 2/24/19 Canon HFG40 Rode Videomic Pro Stereo

Direct Hit was the one band on the bill that I had not heard before. They were amazing- catchy songs with killer harmonies. I was not expecting this type of melody and energy- so great. I looked back at one point and saw their merch guy singing along at the top of his lungs. That’s when you know it’s good- the guy who sees the set every day is into it! They have a CD out on Fat Wreck Chords- I grabbed one.

There was an unbelievably stacked lineup at Holy Diver Sunday before last. Thanks to Sean Hills for promoting such a great show.
Dog Party were second on the bill. They don’t play very often anymore- Lucy lives in So Cal so this was a rare treat!
