Ross the Boss- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 2/14/20 DPA4061 Audio Master FULL Manowar Hail to England

What a show last night. Manowar was one of my favorite bands when I was in high school, and I never had a chance to see them perform. With Ross the Boss(original guitarist and songwriter) coming to town AND playing my favorite Manowar album in its entirety, I couldn’t miss it. Great show- a few from the new Ross the Boss band, a few from other Manowar albums including my favorite song, Battle Hymns. So happy they came to Sac for the first time ever.

Ignite- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 5/16/19 Canon HFG40 & Rode Videomic Pro Stereo

So this was supposed to be a 5 camera multicam, but I moved all day that day and was totally drained when I got to the club. I brought 5 cameras and found a way to screw everything up except for this one. On the bright side, it sounds pretty good. My friend Brian Kast gets a shout-out for wearing a 20 year old shirt to the show.

Lightweight- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 2/24/19 Live Canon HFG40 Rode Video Pro Stereo Mic

Opening the Smoking Popes show was Lightweight. It was nice to hear them on a bigger sound system- Donny usually maxes out smaller PA systems. They sounded really good and they were pumped to open the show.

Direct Hit! – Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 2/24/19 Canon HFG40 Rode Videomic Pro Stereo

Direct Hit was the one band on the bill that I had not heard before. They were amazing- catchy songs with killer harmonies. I was not expecting this type of melody and energy- so great. I looked back at one point and saw their merch guy singing along at the top of his lungs. That’s when you know it’s good- the guy who sees the set every day is into it! They have a CD out on Fat Wreck Chords- I grabbed one.

Dog Party- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 2/24/19 Canon HFG40 Rode Videomic Pro Stereo

There was an unbelievably stacked lineup at Holy Diver Sunday before last. Thanks to Sean Hills for promoting such a great show.
Dog Party were second on the bill. They don’t play very often anymore- Lucy lives in So Cal so this was a rare treat!

Smoking Popes- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 2/24/19 Multicam w/ Sbd/Aud Matrix Audio. Canon HFG40

Now that I know how to make passable matrix recordings, it’s time to clear out some of this multicam backlog.
This was a crazy weekend- I went to City Mouse/Sad Girlz Club at The Colony on Friday night, A fest at Gilman on Saturday with a ton of bands including Dog Party & City Mouse, then back over to Holy Diver for this show. I think I filmed just about every band on every bill, all 3 nights… so I was pretty much exhausted going into this show.
Towards the end of the set, I got SUPER hot and saw stars and felt like I was going to pass out. I sat on the floor and attempted to keep filming, so if the camera work gets crappy toward the end that is the reason. Big thanks to Sean for bringing me a bottle of water. Saved me from totally going under.

Redd Kross- Holy Diver, Sacramento Ca. 12/12/18 Multicam with Rode audio

Redd Kross played Sacramento last in 1997, so I wasn’t going to miss this. I really appreciate Steven McDonald giving me permission at the last minute. There were only 2 downsides to the night- the soundboard didn’t come out (silence) and the gopro on Steven’s side of the stage only shot his dark backside, so it wasn’t used.
