The Lemonheads- Lowlands Fest, Holland 8/22/97 xfer from DAT Master Clone

I wasn’t planning on posting this, but it was on the DAT after that Suicide show, and the set sounded really unique. I then researched the timeframe and this looks like the last few shows with John Strom- this tour ended at Reading, at the end of August.
The reason it caught my eye (ear?) was that Evan seems to be teaching the band songs while they were onstage. The set has some killer covers that they seemed to be playing for the first time. Great stuff.
Evan catches a lot of flak for having some trainwrecks of a show, but sometimes they turn out great, like this one.
Sounds like the covers start 30ish min in.

Audio Live Concert

Old 97s- Starry Plough, Berkeley Ca. 8/8/97 Direct xfer from 8mm Master Tape!

Here’s a video of the Old 97s in their prime- back when Rhett was nerdy and he beat his acoustic guitar so badly that it caused an arm injury. The unique aspect of this show is that Philip Peeples is not on drums- he had an inner ear infection so former manager Mike Schwidler is doing the honors (and does quite well). The show itself is a drunken party- they are playing a pub- and the atmosphere is loose and fun. In fact, Rhett drops a lollipop out of his mouth and kicks it from the stage mid-song.. and nails someone in the front row! It was funny. Enjoy! Filmed with a Sony TR-81 camera.

Son Volt- Cites 97 KTCZ Interview and Live Acoustic in-Studio, Minneapolis Mn 8/4/97 Master tape-DAT

Here’s a nice On This Date to start your week- nice and mellow. I love when the enthusiastic interviewer tries to get Jay to recount his favorite moment from the previous day’s show. Sir, do you even know who you are talking to? LOL. Boquist came to the rescue on that one and Jay was more talkative than usual.

Sounds great, I think I got this from Mark Janovec. He was/is THE MAN for all things uncle tupelo related in mpls.

Audio Live Performance

IGD- Studio Footage 8/2/97 xfer from band VHS tape enhanced I.G.D. Infectious Garage Disease

Here’s one that the old Sacramento punks and friends of Jimmie Couch will enjoy. Studio footage with IGD as they were recording their 1997 demo. It looks to be from Paradise Studios since there is a Cake Fashion Nugget gold record on the wall. Probably the most footage I have ever seen of Jimmie just hanging out. There are some songs being worked up as well. Cool.

The Donnas- Concert Cafe, Green Bay Wi 8/1/97 xfer from VHS Master Tape Enhanced Lookout Records

I think it has been about 4 years since I posted video from Jason Ross’ collection. Jason was kind enough to send me his live audio and video collections back in 2020. I started digitizing some tapes, but then I got buried with work, family and other tape collections and I paused the project. He has some really awesome master videotapes that will be posted soon! In fact, I should probably re-do the fifteen and AFI videos of his that I already posted- this new lossless setup will do a much cleaner transfer.
Here are the Donnas. This one is on youtube, but it is a glitchy generated mess. This one is right off of Jason’s master and looks killer. Sounds pretty decent as well.
