City Mouse- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 7/20/24 4K UHD Multicam w/ Schoeps Audio Pop Punk

Last month, my friend Miski and her band City Mouse came to town for the first time in a little over a year. The band has a new LP done- the street date is 9/5 I think, but you can get early access to buy a copy if you join her Patreon.. which is what I did. It looks like you can also pre-save on Spotify, if you like to support that evil empire. The new album is called “So Far Out”, go look it up along with the last one “Get Right”- great stuff!
This show was special because Davey Tiltwheel was back on a guitar, after missing the Old I show last year due to some health issues. He adds quite a bit with his lead playing. We also get a cameo from Jen from Hammerbombs (and one of City Mouse’s bass players) for a song or 2. Fun night!
The only complaint I had was with the vocals being buried in the mix in the club. Anonymous always gets the best possible sound in his recordings as he focuses on standing in the best sounding spot vs. my spot which needs to work for video. Bummer

City Mouse- Old Ironsides, Sacramento Ca. 4/16/23 4K UHD Multicam w/ boosted Rode Audio

Bonus post- I had posted this one a few weeks back and realized that the audio was too low. I normalized the audio so here it is again, all nice and listenable.
Here is my original post about the show:
After way too many hiccups in this multicam project, here is the City Mouse set from April’s show here in Sac. A few things about this: We had a problem with the soundboard recording, so this is Rode mic only. It doesn’t sound bad, but having Miski’s vocals up front is always good. Also, Old I had a dead lighting spot right in the area where Miski stood, so it makes for an odd well-lit video… except for Miski. Oh well, we did our best.
It was really great to see City Mouse play- it had been 5(?) years since they were in California last.

Audio normalized in Sony Soundforge 10, then synched to video with pluraleyes 4

City Mouse- Holiday Livestream 12/24/20 Screen Recorded Master

It gets pretty challenging to find stuff for On This Date in History around the holidays. This one comes from those fun pandemic times, when the only way that you could see a band perform live was to fire up your pc and watch a live stream. City Mouse did this one for their Patreon subscribers, I think. You should sign up for Miski’s Patreon, it’s totally worth it. She communicates often and sometimes gives early access to new merch and tour leftovers. Plus, you support an awesome person and band.

City Mouse- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 2/23/19 Multicam with Matrix Audio

City Mouse came through in February and played Femfest at Gilman. They had some new band members since the last time I saw them in 2018… including Jen Louie from Hammerbombs!

Huge thanks to Charlie Passarell & Liam Dennis(and maybe others) for the help with editing. They reached out to me to help get these videos done. More to come.

Also thanks to Anonymous for doing the soundboard/audience matrix. Soundboard via USB drive & Audience with the Rode on the balcony cam.

City Mouse- The Colony, Sacramento Ca. 2/22/19 Canon HFG40 Rode Videomic Pro Stereo

City Mouse is one of my favorite bands- they put out my favorite album of 2017 and they have not been to Sacramento since the release of Get Right. This is the best I have ever seen them, even though I think some of the members were just filling in for this short west coast tour. SO GOOD. I think the 2nd guitar really helps fill out the sound. I loved it so much that I bought the LP and 7″ even though I already had them. I am cursed to never own a City Mouse shirt.

City Mouse- Character’s, Pomona Ca. 2/19/18 Multicam Canon HFG30

So I was in southern California for vacation at the same time as City Mouse’s tour. I was so excited! I was planning to go to 3 shows, then 2, and finally only made it to 1. They played right next to where I was staying in Long Beach and I missed it! Damn.
They played to a small crowd at this show in Pomona. Despite living in Whittier for a few years back in the 90s, I had never been to Pomona. It is way out there!
Thanks to the band for allowing me to film. One of the best bands going right now.

City Mouse- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca. 9/8/17 Live Canon HFG30 & Rode Murderburgers

City Mouse is one of my favorite of the new crop of pop punk bands popping up. Probably them and Civil War Rust being the top 2. Miski (Vocals) is GREAT and has such a unique style. They have a new album coming out next month- please go check them out on tour. They had to ditch their van in Colorado, so they are touring in a rented minivan. They could use your support. Also, Fraser from Murderburgers on drums! Speaking of someone who could use your support, you should go to the café colonial sometime. Great people and great food. I had the fry bread (matt marrujo’s family recipe). It is excellent- kinda like a crispy gordita. A full meal AND 1 beer set me back something like $12. CHEAP.

Here is City Mouse’s set fromt he show last month. Great pop-punk with VERY strong vocals. Check it out. If you have not been to a show at the cafe, you need to get on it. It’s a great scene. Thanks to Joe Mckinney for putting on the show. Filmed with my G30 w/rode on a monopod, G30 on a monopod and a G10. Jim McLain filmed with his camera (R500?) and he did the editing. Audio recorded with the DPA mics & mixed with other audio sources by Jim. Thanks Jim!
