Quasi- Ivy Room, Albany Ca. 2/25/23 4K UHD video with Rode Videomic pro stereo Sleater Kinney

For all of you who are on the fence about going to the Quasi show at Starlet room tonight, you need to go. They have an excellent new album out, and they are weeks into a national tour. They are firing on all cylinders at this point. If you are unaware of them, I am posting the video from last night. It was sold out and packed and I could not find Sam before the show, so this one is 1 camera only.
The set consists of all Organ/Drums songs, which are my favorite. Quasi has not been to Sac since 2004, so you need to come see this!
This one is still uploading at the time that I wrote this, so it may not be rendered to 4k when I post. It will, takes YT some time with a file of this size.

Kingdom First- Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco 2/26/23 4K UHD Master Soundboard Audio Alice Donut

Finally, here is the last set of the Peter Ellenby memorial concert. I hunted around for information on the band, and the only discogs listing is 1 song from the soundtrack for Peter’s book “Every Day is Saturday”..so they clearly had a strong connection to Peter.
After a little more digging, I found out that members include Richard Marshall (Alice Donut, NYC) playing guitar, Chris Carroll (Stimmies, SF) playing guitar, Dave Baldini (Swirl Happy, SF) on Bass, Christian Stark (Decal, SF) on drums, and Matthew Jervis (The Clarke Nova, SF) on vocals.
I only did 1 camera, but the board tape turned out nice so my buddy Tromster synched it up for me.

Overwhelming Colorfast- Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco 2/26/23 4K UHD Multicam with Matrix Audio

Overwhelming Colorfast played for the first time in over 6 years at the Peter Ellenby tribute/remembrance show in Feb. They were damned good- I had never seen them before but heard their albums. They are one of those bands that you need to experience live to really get it, I think. The board mix was good but a little harsh sounding so I blended it with the audience mics I ran and it turned out really nice. Thanks to Dan for the permission to video and to Parker for being Parker.

Thee Sgt Major VI- Bottom of the Hill 2/26/23 4K UHD Multicam with Matrix Audio Fastbacks Kurt Bloch

It’s Friday – time for some videos. I think anyone who is paying attention knows that I am a massive Fastbacks fan- I flew to Seattle to see them play SubPop’s 30th anniversary show in 2018. I had never seen Thee Sgt Major, which was Kurt Bloch’s band that he formed after the Fastbacks broke up and went through the 2000’s decade pretty much. They had Jim Sangster from Young Fresh Fellow and Mike Musberger from The Fastbacks, Posies and tons more. There were multiple vocalists including Leslie Beattie- Discogs isn’t making finding all of them easy and I am not digging through the record collection- gotta work.
Anyway, Thee Sgt Major played a show for Peter Ellenby in SF, where they are assembling all versions of the band.. calling it SGT Major 6(VI). It takes an act of nature to get me to go to SF anymore, but this was enough. I had originally requested the edit to be made with a rebalanced soundboard, but I wasn’t totally happy with the sound so I matrixed it with the DPA audio I had. Enjoy!

Oranger- Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco Ca 2/26/23 Digital Soundboard Master Rebal Peter Ellenby

Long old man rant warning!
Even with a google calendar tracking upcoming shows (after buying tickets to 3 shows on the same day a couple years back), I managed to buy tickets to 2 shows on the same day. I’m screwed! But then I realized that this show was a matinee and I could hit both.
I got to the club about 30min after doors and bands were not even setting up yet, but a ton of people showed up early to celebrate Peter which was really nice- it was like a high school reunion! I asked Dan for permission to video Oranger and Overwhelming Colorfast(he drummed for both bands) and got the ok. It was so crowded that it was hard for me to get set up. Bottom of the Hill is dark and I was turning into a trip hazard, all hunched down and getting cameras ready. So I went out to the car to get cards and batteries in cameras, cameras in mounts, etc. While I was out there, I hear noise from the club. It must be the opener.
So I get into the club and the band(who I thought was Kingdom First) was GREAT- great power pop with catchy keyboard melodies. They are well into their set so I plug the A10 in to the board and hit record, but keep the cameras in the bag since it was dark and packed.
Well, the band playing was Oranger and I totally blew it by not getting video. At least the board mix was good enough to rebalance- this sounds great! Thanks to the band for permission and sorry about the miss. Total rookie move. I DID get the rest of the bands on video.

The Dickies- Old Ironsides, Sacramento Ca 2/18/23 4K UHD Multicam with Rode audio punk

Old Ironsides has been diversifying their artist bookings, allowing up and coming/ad-hoc promoters to book there at a very reasonable rate- thanks Old I!
Why am I bringing this up? Because my friend Cory booked one of the best pop punk bands out there- City Mouse- and they are playing at Old I tonight (April 16)! Please come out and support the band. They are truly great.
Anyway, here is an awesome show at Old I- The Dickies played there a couple months back and they were great as always. 2 of the 3 gopros were moved, making one of them (drums) not worth using. The other one made me chuckle a bit- Guitarist Ben Seelig is ALWAYS on part of the stage where I can’t get a good angle on him– last time at Ivy Room, he was completely in the dark. Well, this time, one of the bumped gopros shows only him and a lady in the audience. Ben finally gets some camera time. Haha.
Big thanks to Bobby and Paloma Jordan for helping keep the gopro in front of Stan upright when it got knocked around. I think Mike Meals helped too- thanks!

The Knockoffs- Old Ironsides, Sacrmento 2/18/23 4K UHD Multicam with Rode Audio

I bought my ticket for this Dickies Old I show the day they went on sale, before any local openers were announced. I was very happy when The Knockoffs were added to the bill about a month later. They played a short set- they had an opportunity to play longer when an opener dropped off the bill, but they chose to leave the fans wanting more.
This is the first time video’ing the band in 4k, so you can see every bead of sweat and wrinkle on the guys. Enjoy!

Full Metal Hippies- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 2/15/23 4k UHD Master

Here’s the other short one today. I was multitasking during this set and I only got 2min of useable video. I was trying out a new camera(which wasn’t good in low light so it went back), plus trying to get my laptop multitrack sbd setup going, which also didn’t work out. Sorry FMH, next time. Here’s a little taste of what they are like.

FRACK!- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 2/15/23 4K UHD Multicam with Rode Audio Black Flag cover

Here’s one for all of youse guys who went to the Black Flag show last night- forward to about 32:00 for the ultimate dirge cover of My War. I think this is the longest set I have seen Frack play- there are some new songs in there. Hell, watch the whole thing. Unfortunately, the G50 on the bracket above the door vibrates a bit- they were pretty heavy on the low end!

Unsane- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 2/15/23 4K UHD Multicam with Rode Videomic Pro Stereo Audio

I wasn’t familiar with much of Unsane’s output but I snagged a ticket to the show out of curiosity… and holy cow they RIPPED. I was talking to Chris Lemos last week about this, and apparently even the band told him that they were not usually that tight. I really think it is the room- the sound improvements that have been made in there make it one of the best sounding rooms in Sac. It helps.
It was super dark in there, with only red light being prominent. I did everything I could to enhance the video, but it is still pretty dark.
