Get Married- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 12/28/19 4K UHD Live East Bay Punk This Year Sucked Fest V

So after a trying day – 1:45pm departure from home, 7pm arrival at gilman and accidents, traffic, merch, and backtracking in between… I finally made itjust in time for Get Married’s set. This was the first time seeing them and they were excellent. They are playing Cafe Colonial in Sac tonight with Danger inc and Sarchasm, so come on out and say hi!

Danger Inc. – 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 12/28/19 4K UHD Live This Year Sucked Fest V

After Get Married finished their set, I was going to hang out and talk to friends during the set change… little did I know that the fest was doing 2 “stages”- one on the regular stage, and one on the floor right by the stage. That’s why this was cut at the beginning- I was totally taken by surprise. It was also super dark with low lighting coming from behind the artist, so I had to brighten & remove noise in Adobe Premiere.

After Sarchasm’s set, awakebutstillinbed played on the floor. The lighting was even worse than Danger Inc’s set. I tried my best to enhance the video. Vocals are a bit buried since they were playing through a tiny PA mounted to the ceiling.

This is 1 angle out of 4 that will be edited together later. This video is not great for watching on its own since it is so close up, but this is in 4K and the edit will be in 1080p so I thought some people might like to see it.

While I was videotaping the show, I get a message from Alex Botkin that Murray Bowles had passed away. This was a major shock- Murray had recently moved to Sacramento and I would see him at shows all the time. I saw him last week and he seemed fine. I still can’t believe it.

When I would go to Gilman in the early days (starting in 1988) to videotape, Murray was already legendary. So much so, that I was a bit intimidated to approach him… so I didn’t. It wasn’t until he moved to Sac that I got to know him and learned what everyone else has said- he was totally cool and down to earth. I was looking forward to hanging with him at shows for years to come.

Youth of Today- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 11/15/19 5cam Multicam w/Matrix Audio

I think I have mentioned before that work has been killing me. We have been working day and night. I was even at the Strung Out show at Holy Diver and got called back on a Saturday night (I am an 8-5 M-F desk job guy).
The night before Strung Out, we had another work emergency and I was stuck on the phone. I decided that screw it, I wasn’t missing the YoT show. I packed my video bag while multitasking on the call, and then drove to Berkeley while the call dragged on. I made it to the show 20 minutes before YoT played. I set up 5 cameras in a hurry and got it done. I was SO happy to see Liz doing sound, her mixes always sound great and it mixed perfectly with the Rode audience mic.
