Annihilation Time- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 11/26/23 Schoeps Audience Audio Master

I have a ton of footage AND a multitrack soundboard to mix of this, but I figured that I would post this fast as I am still buzzing from this set. I like the band, but I had no idea that the band brought that much intensity to their live shows- it was unbelievable. It sounded great in the room, which is rare for Gilman- it is a tough room to make sound good. This recording is totally flat- no post processing. Vocals are a little light but I can fix that in the multitrack mixdown… hopefully. I think my gopro video angles were rendered unusable early in the set, when everyone went completely ape shit to the intensity they were seeing on stage. Most intense show of 2023 for sure for me.
Good on Gilman for making this a 4pm start- I was back home before 10pm!
One last thing- why are these guys categorized as a hardcore punk band? They are super fast NWOBHM riffs to my ears.

Annihilation Time- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 11/26/23 4K UHD Multicam with Multitrack Audio Incomplete

I previously posted my schoeps audio recording of this show and wrote about how amazing this show was- the band was on fire and the crowd was going nuts. Now that I finally learned to mix multitracks, here is the video. It turned out pretty good. The only issue is that 8 minutes of the show is missing from this version- the hard drive at Gilman that stores the multitrack files filled up and stopped recording during Annihilation Time’s set. We missed about 8 minutes in the middle of the show. If anyone is dying to see the full multicam with 8 minutes of inferior audio in the middle, let me know. I can post it but it would be a pain in the ass to splice it all together.
Hope you like the mix. Maybe I should have bumped the snare up a bit.

Planet on a Chain- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 11/26/23 5 cam UHD 4K Multicam with Multitrack Audio POAC

One of the openers for that Annihilation Time show was Planet on a Chain. They are from the bay area, so I have caught them a couple of times now. They put out some 7″s on small/self-released labels, and then they were signed to hardcore behemoths Relativity Records. I had a quick chat while buying merch and getting permission to video, and we were joking about them “hitting the big time”. Haha.
Anyway, by friend Tromster loves the band and this edit reflects that. The multitrack mix came out really nice as well. This could be the best sounding Gilman video since that Jawbreaker 2018 show, and one of the best video edits so far from the venue. I wish they could all turn out this good. The new lighting kinda messes with the gopros, otherwise perfect.

Losers- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 11/26/23 Bay area? punk band

I was archiving my footage the other day and realized that I have this footage that I shot while setting up the ladder cam for the POAC/Annihilation Time show. The band is called Losers, and I know nothing about them other than this 4min of footage.
I checked through ths first page of about 20 “losers” bands on discogs and none of them matched their description. If you know anything, let me know.

Thanks Sarah Creamer for the info- the band is from the bay area and are: JERJ-DRUMS ANDREW-GUITAR ETHAN-VOX-STEVE-BASS

Smokers- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 11/26/23 4K UHD Multicam with Multitrack Audio Nuisance Drunk Horse

I figured I would wait until the football games were over before posting today.
I need to admit I had no idea who Smokers were and they just happened to be playing in between Planet on a Chain and Annihilation Time so I kept the cameras rolling.. I just looked them up to see who they were…
Well, holy sh*t I’m an idiot. This is Andy Asp (from legendary lookout band Nuisance) on guitar and vocals. Also features Cyrus Comiskey from drunk horse and others on bass… I think. He was on the recorded material. So glad I fell into taping this one!
They have a 7″ and a demo tape and other stuff at their intuitively named bandcamp page.

Big Laugh- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 10/21/23 2cam Multicam 4K UHD Milwaukee Hardcore Multitrack Audio

Wow, it’s 10pm and I almost missed the daily post. One of the more physically demanding days I have had in a while.
My good friend Age asked me to film these guys if I was able to get to the Scowl/Militarie Gun show early enough. I guess you could say that I got it done halfway. The GH5S ladder angle is too tight (same angle as Militarie Gun) and I could not get my act together on my monopod angle until about 8 minutes in. That has to be a new record of me not being able to get my sh*t together. Thankfully, Otto’s multitrack sounds great so you can at least listen to it and be entertained.
I really liked the band- I am a sucker for those chorusy distorted guitars, man.

Scowl- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 10/21/23 4K UHD Multicam with Multitrack audio Samta Cruz Hardcore

Here at long last is the Scowl edit from last October. We could not get the audio to synch with one of the GH5s angles and were ready to give up on the project, but our friend Derek Purtell was able to make it work. Thanks Derek! Gopros got knocked around but a couple of stage anfgles were good enough to use still.

Militarie Gun- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 10/21/23 4K UHD Multican with Multitrack Audio Hardcore

Happy Friday everyone- it’s time for a few videos over the weekend. It’s time to fall back in the US, so set your clocks back tomorrow night- you can use that extra hour watching stuff.
I went to Gilman for the first time in 10 months to see this show. It was nice to see so many people there. I worry abut the long term longevity of the place, but it is doing well for now. Yay.
Huge thanks to Tromster(as usual) for the edit, and someone new helped out with this one- Otto Freeman ran sound that night, mixed it down, and sent it over about a day after the show. Superhuman soundperson! Thanks.
I filmed this band at Tromster’s request but ended up really enjoying the set. I would go out of my way to see them again- great stuff!
Unfortunately, one camera was knocked out before the set started, another one had too tight of a shot and cut off one guitar player, and the drum gopro is a bit low… but it edited together nicely.

Mean Jeans- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 12/3/22 4K UHD Multicam with soundboard audio

This last 24 hours has been the busiest I have been in months. 4 kids sports games and an arcade game pickup in Walnut Grove.. and now to Oakland to see SATAN. It feels a lot like the night I filmed this Mean Jeans show.
I can’t remember why (probably kids sports again), but I could not get out of sac until late and I sped all the way there. I find a spot right up front and walk in to see the Mean Jeans (headliner) setting up. I set up, filmed, broke down and headed home in about 90 minutes. That’s efficient taping!
This was the first time the bad had played at Gilman and they were pretty stoked about it. Their set was longer than usuak and they took some “deep cut” requests from the audience. Super fun (and hilarious) set from the guys.

Equipment used: Canon HFG60, Canon HFG50, 2x Gopro Hero 7 black. The one on Billy Jeans(bass) froze up. Gah!

Here’s the last show that I saw before the virus and quarantine hit. Madball and dearth before dishonor played gilman a few weeks ago. It was their first time playing the warehouse, and they were obviously pumped. Very energetic show.
