Silverchair- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas Universal Amp, Ca 12/18/95 Xfer from FM DAT Master Audio Live

No posts yesterday, so you get 2 today. Here’s the first. Silverchair only played the second night of the 1995 almost acoustic xmas.

Over the next few weeks, you will be getting full sets of all bands who played the KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, directly off of the DAT master tape. Why? Well, audio to video synch wizard king bean asked for a couple of sets from the weekend of shows, and it just made sense to run the entire set of DATs and archive then now…. especially since they were DIC brand (a little taper humor for the nerds out there).
I moved back to Sacramento over Thanksgiving weekend of 1995, and this took place a month afterwards. HUGE thanks to Kevin Haynes for taping this for me, and then sending the DAT masters to me. What a guy.

Lenny Kravitz- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas Universal Amp, Ca 12/18/95 Xfer FM DAT Master Audio Live

Here’s one that some folks might get excited about- Lenny Kravitz’ performance from night 2 of almost acoustic xmas. Unfortunately, there is a cut in the set due a DAT running out of space, then a tape change. You still get 43min, so not too bad.

Alanis Morrisette- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amp, Ca 12/18/95 Xfer f/FM DAT Master Audio

Here is the second night of Alanis from KROQ’s acoustic xmas. For those of you who are sick of the endless mid-90s alternative onslaught, this is the second to the last one I have from 1995. I do have 1993 and 1994 DAT masters of all the KROQ AAC performances as well, but I’ll give everyone a break before doing this to you again.

Wesley Willis- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amp, Ca 12/18/95 Xfer FM DAT Master Audio

Since that musicalifornia didn’t work, here’s something else for today. Wesley also played both nights at the KROQ acoustic xmas, and he had settled down into FULL salesman mode at this show. It is about 50% music and 50% sales pitch. Includes the smash hit “rock and roll mcdonalds”

Joan Osborne- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amp, Ca 12/18/95 Xfer f/FM DAT Master Audio

Haha, KROQ botched the bio for Joan. They talked about her being from Anchorage ALASKA on night 1, and they announce her as being from Alaska on night 2. She is from Anchorage, Kentucky… that “other” Anchorage. Too funny. You can hear her shout “I am not from Alaska” during the intro on this, her 2nd night of KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas.

I posted her appearance from night 1 over a month ago, and it has a whopping 25 views… lowest other than Bootyquake and Bush. Damn, not much demand for Joan nowadays.

Goo Goo Dolls- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amp, Ca 12/18/95 Xfer f/FM DAT Master Audio

Here’s a killer set by Goo Goo Dolls when they were still pretty heavy. I got to see them, beer in hand, at a surreal company event in front of “it’s a small world” about 10 years ago and that set sounds a lot different than this one! No recordings of that one- I was told that we would face “disciplinary action” if it was recorded. Through work, I also got to see One Direction (and meet them)… but the topper was seeing Michael Franti and Spearhead play a great set in front of the cantina at California Adventure and people from all around the world dancing together. One of the most feel good moments of working at this place for almost 24 years.
