Jayhawks- The Chapel, San Francisco Ca 10/24/21 4K UHD Multicam with Soundboard Schoeps Matrix Audio

Before I get into the story behind this one, I wanted to thank PD Larson for helping to secure permission to video this show. I really appreciated you taking time out of your busy schedule to help me out. Also thanks to Ryan, the TM/PM/Soundman for the band. Thanks to Bruce for the audience tape and thanks to Anonymous for the matrix work. Finally, thanks to Tromster for editing this together- it was a lot of work.
So I had bought a ticket for this show weeks before it happened, and then the biggest storm we have seen in the past few years was forecast to hit on this night. I almost blew the show off, but PD had already worked to get permission and that would have been a huge dickish move on my part, so I drove 3 hours through the worst of the storm to the show. It only got real scary a few times.
The video and audio turned out really nice. The only downside was that my gopros on stage conked out about 80-90min into the set, so you only get 2 cameras toward the end of the show. What a show- they played so many of my favorites including a Golden Smog song for the encore!
I am really proud of this one.

Jayhawks- Petrillo Bandshell, Grant Park, Chicago Il 7/4/97 xfer from Hi8 Master tape americana

I don’t have much time to make funny today, so here’s the video. The Jayhawks, outdoors, right off Neil Werries’ master tape! There is also an FM broadcast of the show, but of course pluraleyes won’t synch it so I need to figure out how to get it done. This will do for now, still sounds good.

The Jayhawks- XRT 4th of July, Petrillo Bandshell, Grant Park, Chicago Il 7/4/97 Master Video, Sbd

For today’s collections post, I grabbed one of Neil Werries’ master videos. I posted this entire set before, but this time I attempted to synch the soundboard-fm audio (master audio thanks to Ross Weyman) to the video. It worked for about half the songs, so that’s what you get today.

If you want to see/hear the entire thing in this quality, please get involved! The Sac Music Archive is a 501c3 nonprofit and you will receive a tax deduction when you volunteer! Contact me through the website if you are interested. For this, we would need someone who is good at synch 2 analog sources (audio/video) together.

The Jayhawks- Riviera Thtr, Chicago Il 5/23/97 Lossless xfer f/Hi8 master tape Americana Alt country

It’s Friday, so that means video from one of the many collections over here. It is Neil Werries’ turn for a post today. Coincidentally, I happened to be burning a bunch of lossless transfers of his to disc, and I realized that this show had not been posted yet.
For those with skillz- there are 2 angles of this show, but we need help with time alignment for editing. If this is something that you are able to do and you are willing to help, please reach out at shaynestacy@hotmail.com thanks.

The Jayhawks- Stubbs, Austin Tx. 3/15/97 SXSW xfe Hi8 Master tape enhanced Jody Stephens Golden Smog

Here’s another great show, courtesy of Neil Werries. I really appreciate Neil hoofing it to SXSW and filming a bunch of killer stuff back during the GOOD times… and I had babies at home so it wasn’t happening for me.
I was transferring this one and I looked up, and there was Jody Stephens on drums! He came on for the encore, Golden Smog’s “Until You Came Along”. Wow! Jessy Greene on violin too. Filmed with permission on tripod.
This sounds pretty damned good for an audience video, but if anyone has the soundboard of this set (talking to you old alt.country traders), let me know.

The Jayhawks- Stubb’s, Austin Tx 3/15/97 xfer from hi8 Master w/ DAT Soundboard audio americana

I posted this video from Neil Werries’ collection of master tapes a little over a year ago, back when he sent me his tapes to digitize and post. At the time, I put out a request to the universe- did any of my old taper friends/tape traders have a soundboard tape of the set? Erik Flannigan (mastermind behind the National’s “Juicy Sonic Magic” release) PM’d me last month and told me that he had a DAT clone of the show through the board! See? I knew if I put it out there and waited long enough, we would all be rewarded. Thanks Erik! Also a huge thanks to Derek Purtell, who synched the audio and video since pluraleyes barfed all over it.

Thanks to Heinz Vlatin for the better audio. The improved audio source is missing the first 4 songs, so if anyone has a complete set of decent audio, we are still looking!

Here’s another awesome document from Steve Rogers. The classic Louris/Olson Jayhawks lineup with an appearance by Chris Robinson during the encores! If anyone has better audio, please let me know. I checked archive.org and 10/20 is up there, but not this show.

Jayhawks- Zimba, Milan Italy 11/10/93 Proshot TV full show xfer f/ 1st gen VHS Enhanced alt country

I was looking for some new/old videos to post on the weekends, so I went through a stack of VHS tapes that I received in trades in the early 90s. I went through 1 stack OF 15 tapes and found a bunch of cool uncirculated stuff.
I got this one in trade from Gary Shurtleff back in early 94. He would get PAL masters of concerts that were broadcast on Italian TV mailed to him, and he would use a worldwide multiformat VCR to copy them over to NTSC for all of us. This was a HUGE deal back then- those VCRs cost about $1k at the time. Thanks Gary!
I am kinda floored that this is not on youtube. Has it really been uncirculated for 30 years? That’s nuts. Great Louris/Olson Jayhawks set.
