Groovie Ghoulies- Concerts in the Park,Plaza Park,Sacramento Ca 8/30/96 xfer f/DAT Master Soundboard

It’s Kepi day! Kepi has flown down from Portland for his only Sacramento show of the year. It’s at the Chalk it Up festival at Fremont Park. He goes on at NOON- that’s like an hour from now. So listen to this (or his acoustic live stream on facebook this morning), then head out and enjoy the show. the fest is FREE, but buy a shirt because he can’t fly back with them. Unfortunately, I won’t be there. Getting an X-ray on the fractured left wrist.

This was the first Concert in the Park I ever attended, 39 years ago. I was confused because the DAT is labeled as Plaza Park. Today I learned that Plaza Park was the name of Cesar Chavez plaza, before it was renamed!

It boggles my mind that I got there late (tape cuts in mid-song) and the recording is STILL 95 minutes long! The mix is pretty good, but it moves a bit so not a good candidate for a quick rebalance.

KISS- Arco Arena, Sacramento Ca 8/28/96 xfer from 8mm master tape Enhanced

Happy Father’s Day! I was trying to come up with a good Dad band to post on Father’s day, and since I didn’t have any Wilco prepped, this will have to do. Here is another one of Gary Shurtleff’s master tapes that I digitized recently, and then gave it a small amount of degrain in Neat Video. It turned out pretty nice! Gary did a nice job filming in the arenas.

Archers of Loaf-First Avenue, Fargo ND 8/21/96 Xfer f/1st gen soundboard tape complete Eric Bachmann

I just finished digitizing and rebalancing today’s on this date in history.
I had the venue one marked as First Avenue, Minneapolis which made no sense. There were very few boards coming out of that venue and a 1st gen? How? Who did I get it from?
Thanks to Dan Johnson and newspapers dot com, it was actually the venue of the same name in Fargo. Now it made sense- it’s a Steve Hanson (RIP) tape!
There was no bass in the mix so I bumped it up in Izotope. Also pushed the guitar a little as well.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the next big thing.

Ben Harper- The Edge, Palo Alto Ca 8/19/96 xfer f/master audio cassette

I was working my way down the collections spreadsheet and didn’t notice a couple of people way up top who haven’t had stuff posted in about a month. Whoops! We are now on a ~2 week cadence, which is pretty good I think.

Arica Pelino recorded this one and while it isn’t a pro recording, it was good enough to just post it as-is. No EQ/rebalance. I did edit out her chatting with friends at the start- her and Wayne Vanderkuil have the same taping approach apparently.

Krupted Peasant Farmers- Lyn’s Farm,Kaukauna Wi 8/1/96 xfer f/master VHS tape Enhanced San Jose Punk

It’s Friday, so you get a video from one of the collections here. When I dug into Jason Ross’ VHS tapes (he sent me hundreds of them), I realized that he sent a stack of master tapes years back that I never digitized. This is one of them. This band still has a following- their CD’s and demos are still in demand I have have seen some chatter about them on the lookout records group… but with a name like that, playing an actual farm in Wisconsin? Perfect. Acoustics in the metal barn/shed are not great, but the camera audio is still pretty good.
