Feral Season- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 7/31/22 4K UHD With multitrack audio Black Metal

TLDR Version: This band is GREAT and you should go see them play at Cafe Colonial tomorrow night 8/15.

So my friend Pat Hills (Earthtone Studios) asked me to come out and video the debut performance of his band, Feral Season. They released an album in February but I totally missed out. Man, this band is great. Beautiful, dark, haunting music segues into melodic black metal. As good, if not better than the touring Swedish black metal bands I have seen.
Pat recorded a multitrack of the show and put together what might be the best sounding live mix I have ever heard from a multitrack pull. Damn, it is so good.
Anyway, please listen and go to the show. They open the show, so ” can’t stay out late on a work night” is not a valid excuse!
The camera auto-exposed to a level that was way too bright- I fix it about 3min in. It is red and dark (as it should be) from there on out.

Black Label Society- Heart Health Park Sacramento 7/30/22 enhanced with DPA 4061 Audio Zakk Wylde BLS

BLS was the one band on the bill that was unfamiliar to me. I was going to write this long thing and bag on them, but I’ll just admit I must not get it. There were a lot of people very excited to see the show. In fact, there was one guy in front of me for the first part of the show who was going apesh*t- I was going to give up and just film him, but I eventually re-engaged and focused on filming. This one turned out the best of the 3, quality wise. The wind had not picked up and the sun was going down.

Anthrax- Heart Health Park, Sacramento 7/30/22 4K UHD Full Show Enhanced w DPA 4061 audio

Like Paul Piazza mentioned, this show was super difficult to shoot. The wind picked up and blew from behind the stage toward the crowd, which brought all of the fog machine smoke in front of the band. Combine that with the LED lighting and you have one hell of a mess. I did my best.
It was a fun show. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed in the same canned (EXACTLY the same every night) and short set (12 songs)… but what they did play was excellent. This is the best I have heard Joey sound live.

Hatebreed- Heart Health Park, Sacramento 7/30/22 4K UHD Full Show w/DPA Audio Jamey Jasta

Man, what a busy weekend. 4 soccer games and 2 concerts, including this one. I snagged one of those sweet $30 “all-in” tickets off groupon, which included state fair admission. Unfortunately, I did not have time to enjoy the fair, but the show was a lot of fun. Caught up with so many friends.
Hatebreed opened the show. I thought I was in a good position to film but once they started playing, everyone moved up to the stage and I found myself filming in a crowd. Lots of hands and heads in the way at times as a result but I did my best. Slightly overexposed at first until I make some adjustments.

Addalemon- The Audio Nerd, Rocklin Ca. 7/23/22

Kurtis Bishop reached out to me on the sacmusicarchive’s website email and let me know that he audio taped the Audio Nerd show last weekend. It’s nice to have another taper in town, and it is nice to finally hear addalemon. I am a sucker for pop punk so I’ll try to catch them at a show.

Also nice to have a recording from The Audio Nerd- good store and Steve is a good guy.

Near Beer- 7th Street Station, Reno Nv. 7/14/22 4K UHD Single Camera Version Henry Clay People

One of my favorite bands over the past 15 years has been Henry Clay People. They put out a slew of great albums, even recording the last one in Sacramento. Near Beer features 2 members from HCP, including Joey Siara on guitar and lead vocals. This was enough to get me (and Anonymous) to drive 2 hours each way on a weeknight to see them play a house show in Reno.
Tim Wainer is a longtime friend who we met through the postcardfromhell email list- he has put on shows at his house for the past 10(?) years. The room is about 12×12- if you want an intimate show, this is the place to be. In fact, Craig Finn from The Hold Steady is playing there soon.
It was great meeting the band- I got to talk to Joey for a bit- and the whole show had a great, laid back, house party vibe. Nice meeting Gia as well- we have a bunch of mutual friends and loved her Request Video cable show when I lived in Whittier in the 90s.
This is 1 camera of 3 that I crammed into that tiny room. I know the drum cam came out ok, I am not sure if I can salvage the Joey Cam. If so, there will be a 3 cam edit of this one.

Deftones – Mad Cool 7/7/2022

Took a trip to Spain to catch the band on their latest Euro tour and recorded this one myself.. The mix on site was rough so audio didn’t turn out too good, but didn’t want footage to go to waste. I’d asked for permission to film but didn’t hear back, hope I didn’t ruffle any feathers
