Venom- Spectrum, Montreal Quebec Canada 3/25/85 Ultimate Revenge Tour no Mantas xfer f/ Master tape

I made a mistake on the post today- the tape was not marked at all, so I listened and made a guess- with the shout-outs to Voi Vod, I assumed it was the show that they played with them at The Ritz on 4/5/86. Doug just emailed me and told me that it was not the Ritz show, and that it might be Montreal. I went back and listened to the tape closely and Cronos does mention Montreal after Black Metal. A quick check of setlist.fm shows that the set matches the Spectrum show from 3/25/85. So, there you go. I totally whiffed on the ol’ detective work on this one.

here’s my original post for reference:

Since there are not one but two pieces of news about Venom in today’s news cycle, I figured I would post the last Tour Manager Doug master recording of Venom. About those news items- Tom talked about Cronos “hitting” him when we were all backstage at the Crest show in 85, and I think the black eye was still visible. Odd to see that story get some legs all these years later.
Regarding the Venom Inc article about Abaddon’s departure from the band, I’ll keep my opinions (mostly) to myself… but I know how well Antony treats his fans and he was battling cancer as well (not mentioned in the article). He’s a good guy who seems to have gotten a raw deal.
Anyway, this one is definitely a Doug master. You can hear him clowning with friends during breaks in the music- he clearly prefers Voi Vod over Venom “Voigod! haha). Classic!

Slayer- Seagull Inn, Baltimore Md 3/16/85 xfer from master audio cassette Thrash Metal Kerry King

Wow, we made it a whopping 8 days without a Slayer post. This one comes from Baltimore, in the very non-Slayer sounding Seagull Inn. That makes me wonder- is this the most wimpy-named venue that Slayer ever played? I know that they were too big to play the Sit-n-Spin laundromat/music venue in the 90s. Chime in if you know of any evil bands playing silly venues. Venom at Unicorn Stables or some sh*t.
I would say that this is an average Doug recording- slight distortion, bass rumble since I had to push the EQ to get anything low in the mix, and slightly fuzzy separation of instruments. Still, Slayer at Seagull Inn!
