Victims Family- Cattle Club, Sacramento Ca. 6/30/90 xfer from master tape!

Well, this is odd. I don’t recall getting to this show late, but this video cuts in and it seems obvious that I did. It seems to be about half the set. I think this is the only one of my VF Cattle Club videos that was not edited with Jerry’s camera by Jim McLain. Jim, is there Jerry footage of this show? Taped with the Aiwa CV80 and Sony ECM909 Mic.

Live Concert Video

Movie Stars- Freight and Salvage, Berkeley Ca 6/30/90 xfer from 8mm master 1st Set

I filmed this one 35 years ago today. I was such a big Movie Stars fan. I would follow them around and video all the concerts I could catch. They played 2 sets on this night. I filmed them both and I have a soundboard tape of the 2nd set. One day, I will do lossless transfers of these 8mm tapes, denoise them and upscale to HD, and possibly synch the board tape. It’s not a great mix so I will need to see if Izotope can help.

Jesus Jones- Glastonbury Fest, Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset, England 6/22/90 xfer f/master VHS tape

it’s time for the Patreon voter’s choice and er, sorry everyone. I was running through the list and adding any “J” video that looked alright and this one is not great unfortunately. At least you now know what its like to be in the crowd at Glastonbury!

next week’s will be better, I promise.

Uncle Tupelo- KWUR Interview and Live in Studio, St. Louis Mo. 6/21/90 xfer from band archive tape

Here are the goodies for today. When I borrowed the big box of tapes from Tony Margherita, I had to get them digitized and back to him in a hurry. As a result, I was able to enjoy quite a few of them while transferring them to DAT, but some slipped through the cracks and I never really listened to them. This is one of those that slipped through. Awesome early interview and live in studio.

Nerve Circus- Howard Haus, Howard Wi 6/18/90 xfer f/master audio cassette Rochester NY

I thought I wouldn’t have a chance in finding a flyer for this show but a google search helped me figure out that this set was an opening slot for Fugazi. Interesting choice for an opener, I wonder how they went over. They are more of a pop/rock band than indie/punk.

Jason Ross’ recording sounded pretty decent. It was clear with some distortion in one frequency band which I EQ’d out. Not bad.

Capitol Punishment- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 6/16/90 xfer Master Soundboard tape Fresno Punk Hardcore

aw man, I hate it when I post really good stuff so late. I worry that it will get lost overnight and nobody will pay attention.

Now that I have hit the “2x” button on all of these collections posts, I decided to just do Radley’s stuff in alphabetical order. Most of the ones that Radley binder’d are pretty much perfect soundboard mixes and this one is no exception. I didn’t need to do a thing to it- it sounds fantastic! Thanks Radley!

Corrupted Morals- WFMU Live in Studio, E Orange NJ 6/14/90 xfer from 1st gen cassette

Here is one from Jason Ross’ collection. I poked around and it looks like I had not posted anything from Jason’s tapes in over a year- sorry Jason! It just reinforces my need to start posting something from everyone’s collection or they will just sit here. Jason sent me hundreds of VHS and audio cassettes about 5 years ago. Time to start them in earnest.
Jason got this from a guy named Matt who taped this off the radio in NJ. He didn’t trade a whole lot so this one might be uncirculated. It sounds pretty damned good.

Exene Cervenka (X)- Spoken Word, McCabe’s, Santa Monica 6/10/90 xfer master tape Sony WMD6C/ECM909

Here’s one from Anonymous 1’s collection that has been sitting on the shelf here for many years and I finally got around to digitizing. Thanks for your patience, my friend.
This is a rare early spoken word performance from Exene, opening for Henry Rollins during a 3 night run at McCabes in 1990. My friend Anonymous 1 drove down there from Sacramento and stayed with a taper friend (Jon Vogel). The stories that came out of that were legendary.
McCabes is a tiny room- it holds maybe 150 seated. I used a photo from the back of the room so you could see how tiny the place is. I saw so many killer shows there- Meat Puppets a bunch of times, Tweedy(when he was good), J Mascis, Buffalo Tom, Evan Dando and more. The place is a treasure.
The crowd applause in between spoken word segments was overpowering. I did my best to pick through it and normalize it (manually- ugh) the best I could. As a side note, I just discovered that Rollins put out an official CD from this run of shows- not sure how I missed that.
