Victims Family- Cattle Club, Sacramento Ca. 6/30/90 xfer from master tape!

Well, this is odd. I don’t recall getting to this show late, but this video cuts in and it seems obvious that I did. It seems to be about half the set. I think this is the only one of my VF Cattle Club videos that was not edited with Jerry’s camera by Jim McLain. Jim, is there Jerry footage of this show? Taped with the Aiwa CV80 and Sony ECM909 Mic.

Uncle Tupelo- KWUR Interview and Live in Studio, St. Louis Mo. 6/21/90 xfer from band archive tape

Here are the goodies for today. When I borrowed the big box of tapes from Tony Margherita, I had to get them digitized and back to him in a hurry. As a result, I was able to enjoy quite a few of them while transferring them to DAT, but some slipped through the cracks and I never really listened to them. This is one of those that slipped through. Awesome early interview and live in studio.

The Boon- Cattle Club, Sacramento Ca. 6/7/90 w/ Spiral Stairs from Pavement on Bass!

I don’t think many people have seen this one. The Boon include Mike Yoas and John Conley from Desario. Mike was friends with Scott (Spiral Stairs) so Mike asked him to fill in on bass. I think this might have been the only show they did with Spiral on bass. Sorry for the darkness. Blame the light guy. 🙂

Thin White Rope- AJZ, Bielefeld Germany 6/1/90 Audio Soundboard xfer from 1st gen band archive tape Rebalance

Bonus post today- I posted this a couple weeks back and one of the band members mentioned Guy’s vocals being buried in the mix. His vocals were almost always low in the mix. I rebalanced this one and pushed the vocals up as much as possible and got some feedback that this one sounds better. So here is the boosted vocal version for you.

I was digging through a tray of tapes a while back for something else and came across this one. This is one of my favorite TWR tapes, out of the ~100ish that I have. ML told me that this is just a straight board mix, but it came out amazing. TWR board mixes are usually unbalanced because they played so loud, but this one was close to perfect- all I had to do was boost the high end a bit. A rare case when the band sounds amazing and the mix works. Thanks ML for sending this to me about 30 years ago!!
Listen with headphones- Roger’s guitar is in one channel and guy’s is in the other. Kick ass, espcially during Mr. Limpet.

Recorded by: ML Compton
Equipment used: House deck, I assume
Transfer by: Shayne Stacy
Transfer Equipment: Nakamichi Dragon and M-Audio Audiophile 2496
EQ (high end +2) in Sony Sound Forge
Rebalanced in Izotope rx7 – vocals +5
