Sarchasm- Whiskey Barrel Tavern, Stockton Ca. 2/6/17 Multicam with Rode VPS Audio!

Sarchasm is one of the “new wave” of bands who have sprouted from 924 Gilman’s scene. Bass player Alex Botkin is the guy responsible for the Lookouting shows along with a bunch of other cool shows along the way under the “taco truck” name. I had never been to the Whiskey Barrel before- it is a challenging place to film. They only have fluorescent lights, and the lights are behind the performers. So, bright backs, dark faces. Hm. It still turned out ok. Filmed with 2 HFG30 and 1 HFG10 on the pole, pointed at Alex.

Last Communion- Whiskey Barrel Tavern, Stockton Ca. 2/5/17 Multicam with Rode Audio Live Punk

I posted the edit of the Sarchasm set a few years ago, but we never got back around to doing the rest of the bands.
Whiskey Barrel was a tough venue to film in- the stage was extremely low so shooting from straight back is hard. There was no room on stage and I only had 1 gopro, so I popped up a tripod side stage and the angle is a little tight. There is a pole right in the middle of the stage, which worked out nicely for a drum cam.
All in all, it turned out pretty good and it will probably be the only multicam hometown show ever from LC. Enjoy.

Surrogate Brains- Whiskey Barrel Tavern, Stockton Ca. 2/4/17 Canon HFG30 Part 1 The Authorities

Here’s another show that still needs to be edited, but I wanted to get this one angle out before this weekend. This show was awesome- A FREE Surrogate Brains show in their hometown! So the show starts and they open with a song that sounded familiar, but it wasn’t theirs… about 20 seconds in, I realized that it is “Achtung” by Stockon legends The Authorities. Wow, odd and cool way to start the show. Then they start the next song- “I Hate Cops”. HOLY SHIT THEY ARE PLAYING THE ENTIRE “Soundtrack for Trouble” 7″! A bunch of people were reacting the same way- holy shit, sing along, jump on stage. I hope the camera work holds up because I was a little excited. Anyway, I am blathering on because The Authorities are PLAYING 3 SHOWS THIS WEEKEND. You MUST GO. DNA Lounge tonight, Gilman tomorrow night, Whiskey Barrel on Sunday. go go go.

Last Communion- Whiskey Barrel Tavern, Stockton Ca. 2/4/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30 Rode VPS Mic

This one is being posted “early” for Steve Rogers. I filmed with 4 cameras, but the edit is not done yet. Last Communion is playing this weekend! They are playing with The Authorities at DNA tomorrow, Gilman on Friday, and Whiskey Barrel in Stockton on Saturday. You need to see LC and the authorities! This video does not have much zoom/pan because it was meant to be one angle in a 4 camera multicam. Sorry. Also, the lighting at Whiskey Barrel is odd- the band is lit from the back. You can still see ok and it sounds alright. Good sample of what’s in store this weekend!

The Knockoffs- Plea for Peace Center, Stockton Ca. 8/17/13 1080p HD Live Video Master

Since I had posted about a million audio shows in a row, I checked the list to see if I could put some actual moving pictures up here…
I was sad to see that there are no posts from Plea for Peace on the archive. I only went to this show there- on the venue’s closing night- to see The Knockoffs play an unannounced show. The funny thing is that many of my good friends now (Jordan Wolfe, Bear Williams, Anthony Lew, Lory Gilpatric, Matt Bennett and Charles Albright) were playing the show but I did know them OR the bands back then! I was so out of it.
One of the reasons why I did not post this back in 2013 was due to the audio quality. There was something wrong with the PA that night- it was not very loud, but SUPER “squelchy”. It made my ears ring badly after the show, even without the volume. This was The Knockoffs first show back after a years-long layoff. It was a secret warmup show in preparation for the headlining punch and pie 20th anniversary show the following weekend. Great show and who knew that you could stick guitar picks on Tom’s head like that?

The Freeze- Blackwater Cafe, Stockton Ca. 4/5/09 Digital Master Live Audio only Punk Hardcore Boston

I think that this was the first audio recording that I had made since I got out of DAT taping a few years prior. One of my all-time favorite bands The Freeze were touring so I went to see them twice. I borrowed my good friend Anonymous’ gear and headed down to a tiny cafe in Stockton (that as you can see from the picture, is now gone).
The place was tiny, but there was a good crowd for the show. It sounded pretty good in the “club”(coffeeshop)- better than the Javalounge show the next week.
