Billy Joel- Market Square Arena, Indianapolis In 4/2/87 xfer f/master or 1st gen tape Incomplete

This one was on the Tony Philputt/Phil Go tape along with the Let’s Active show that I posted a couple weeks back. This one is for my friend Steve Kirsch since he is a huge Billy Joel fan! It’s only 35 minutes of the show.

I have to admit, I am not a big fan of arena videos, and even less of a fan of Billy Joel. In fact, I will share an anecdote about Billy. Since I am constantly dealing with old gear, I need to have a test tape- a tape that I do not give a sh*t if it gets eaten in case a deck is malfunctioning. That VHS tape is currently Billy Joel in concert. Lol, sorry BJ fans. Hope you enjoy the video…

T.S.O.L. – Hoosier Ballroom, Indianapolis In 11/29/86 xfer f/1st gen VHS tape Soundboard Audio

I had another video post planned for today and then I realized that I was overdue for one from Tony P/Phil Go’s collection, so I scrambled one together here.

This one is pretty nice, and all that exists on this tape from TSOL’s opening set for Red Hot Chili Peppers. The board mix is a bit high on vocals. I think I might do extra work on the RHCP and rebalance the board mix before posting that one.

Badfinger- Bentley’s Indianapolis, IN 11/12/86 xfer f/1st gen VHS tape Joey Molland Live

I can finally get this one posted. After many tries in digitizing the VHS tape (I think the tape was dirty in spots) and 3 times trying to process, here it is. It’s pretty good for an unauthorized audience shot video. The sound is really good. From Phil Go/Tony Philputt’s collection.

It looks like there will be a parade of bonus posts for the next week or so. Some are Patreon thank-you’s, some are re-do’s of VHS transfers that had audio issues. This is the latter- Audio was totally blown out on this post from a couple weeks back, and my pluraleyes synch did not work. So here it is again with proper, in synch original audio.

Original (revised) post text:
Here’s one from Phil Go/Tony Philputt’s collection that is already on YT but not in this quality. I think Tony’s tape is either a master or 1st gen VHS because it is super clean (edit- it is master- he confirmed)

Zero Boys- Vogue, Indianapolis In 1/30/85 xfer from low gen VHS tape enhanced Midwest Punk Hardcore

Posting this one early since I am still working on On This Date, and I know people will be heading out to some events today. Be safe and peaceful everyone.

This one is from Tony Philputt’s collection that I picked up from Phil Go a month or so back. Tony either video’d some early midwest shows himself, or I think he got them from the filmer. A lot of unbelievable stuff is in his collection, but they were all commingled with hundreds of other tapes. In fact, there were 24 banker’s boxes full of VHS tapes to go through. It was quite the treasure hunt! It took hours of digging to find Phil’s tapes that he wanted along with tapes from Tony that I think are like this one.

So on to the goods. Man, is this one awesome. There are some serious A/V synch issues but it’s still worth the watch. Quick reminder that you can volunteer at the Sacramento Music Archive nonprofit and work from home and help me fix up things like A/V synch issues- $40/hr of volunteer time in a donation receipt to you. C’mon, what are you waiting for?

This one has out of synch distorted audience audio, then no audio, then more out of synch distorted audience audio, then soundboard audio, then distorted audience audio. All within 10 minutes!

Is that guy at the very end the same guy as the stoned guy meme? The resemblance is uncanny!

There is also a headlining set that I will be posting next month.
Thanks Phil and thanks Tony!

Toxic Reasons- The Vogue, Indianapolis In 1/30/85 xfer f/VHS master or 1st gen

Since we have a bonus post today, let’s get to the collections video now. Good news I think- it appears that the video capture setup is working! I was able to get an ATI TV Wonder 600 USB capture device- it turns out after flushing almost $1k down the toilet, it was the capture device’s fault. Oh well, I guess it was good for the TBC to be recapped…

I am running a few more tapes to test it out, but it looks good so far. Yaaay. 2 months of thrashing around is finally done.
