Centro-matic: Dan’s Silverleaf, Denton Tx. 6/26/22 4K UHD 5 Camera Multicam Dan’s 20th Anniversary

Happy Friday everyone! Between all of the Texas travel (I was working as much as I could in between driving and the concerts), and work blowing up when I returned, I am ready for this weekend. Man, that’s a crappy sentence.

Here is another multicam from the June Texas trip. This was the final performance of the 4 show Centro-Matic run over that weekend. This one was a bit odd, since they played first that day at noon- it was Dan’s 20th anniversary of being a venue, and a ton of bands played.

The show isn’t perfect video-wise (a couple of angles are overexposed) but I picked this one for 3 reasons: This is the only set where all of my cameras were in the right place AND they all worked, the board mix was good enough to use as-is with a little rebalance… and the performance kicks ass. It seems like they are playing their hearts out because it is the last time they are playing for a while…

Centro-Matic: Dan’s Silverleaf, Denton Tx. 6/24/22 4K UHD Multicam with Matrix Audio Will Johnson

About a month ago, I went to Texas with my friend Anonymous and his wife. We had a blast and got to see Centro-Matic play a weekend’s worth of shows at Dan’s. Man, I love Denton- it is like an oasis in the middle of Texas.. even moreso than Austin (Blasphemy!).
But anyway, I brought 5 4k cameras and Anonymous brought his schoeps audio rig. Brent Best was doing sound for the shows and they sounded great. I don’t know if I will ever get used to asking one of my favorite musicians to plug me into the board.
In general, a lot of stuff can go wrong when doing multicam and this one is no exception. The gopros conked out early, so this goes from 5 camera to 2 camera as the show progresses. Great set- probably my favorite set out of the 4.

Centro-Matic: Dan’s Silverleaf, Denton Tx. 6/23/22 4K UHD Multicam with Matrix Audio

Happy new year!
We have posted a few videos from this weekend, but I have been holding off posting this one from the first night because so much went wrong. When I went to put the gopro on stage by Will, he politely asked me to move it elsewhere but there was not much real estate available.. so I kinda panicked (not much time), set it on a drink table and did not get a good angle. The gopro on the other side of the stage somehow got set to take a bunch of burst photos, so that was also no good. So, this one is a 3 angle deal which turned out ok. I guess it was a good warmup to the other shows.
This leaves only one video from the weekend not edited- the set that was also streamed via prekindle. I have 2 angles that I’ll probably just not do unless someone is dying to see it. The funny thing about prekindle is that I have now paid for 3 live streamed shows, and I have not seen any of them in their entirety! I missed screen recording the first slobberbone one, the second slobberbone was accidentally recorded as audio only, and then this one. I had to talk my daughter through the steps to screen record the show over the phone- she did great. But the stream froze at the end… I guess I’ll never see their work. It’s too bad, since they do a fantastic job.

Static Diary (Scott Danbom from Centromatic)- Dan’s Silverleaf, Denton Tx. 6/23/19

There were no posts to the Sac Music Archive over the weekend because I was in Texas going to shows with only a cellphone (and 6 cameras). Friday and Saturday shows were multicams so those will get posted later.

Sunday at the Summer Hangout in Denton started out VERY mellow. I think Travis had a good idea to start things off quietly since Saturday was a party.

I got there early to see Scott Danbom. I loved Centro-Matic and wanted to see what he was up to now. He just released a solo record and played a few songs here.

Centro-Matic: Great American Music Hall, San Francisco 2/19/03 xfer from DV Master!

Here’s a video of Centro-Matic in their prime. This set was pretty short because they were opening for Ben Kweller on this tour.. but it was the only video of Centro that turned out ok. I did another from 2002 in Sacramento, but it is super dark. Filmed with a nice JVC DV camera- don’t remember model #. I also have a DAT soundboard of the set, but this audio is just from the camera.

Here is one that I have been wanting to synch up for quite a while, and decided now is a good time because Will Johnson is coming through town (er, Reno) this week! Also, Centro-Matic is scheduled to play their first show in 7 years in a month or so.
Thanks to Will for always being cool about taping.

Centro-Matic: Capitol Garage, Sacramento Ca. 4/16/02 xfer from master DV tape enhanced Will Johnson

Here is a video on audio day. There are 2 reasons I am posting video on a Tuesday. 1 is that I am super bummed to miss the Shoals Fest in Alabama here in a couple weeks. Centro-Matic is playing there for the first time in 7 years… but the COVID situation in the southeast makes travelling there a really bad decision. Second, even though this video is SUPER dark and colorless even after cranking the brightness & color as high as it would go in Adobe Premiere, it sounds pretty good for a video with stock mic. So, pop it on and listen.
This was the first and last time I filmed at Cap Garage- it was just too dark for my camera to handle. It’s a bummer because there were so many good shows there.
Shout out to Charles Twilling for bringing great americana/alt-country bands to Sacramento in the early 00s.
