Some friends were asking that I post this one. I was fortunate enough to see COC, Soundgarden and Danzig in 1990 at the Warfield. I recorded from the balcony so the recording suffers from the poor acoustics up there. I think I used a Sony ECM-909 mic.
Here’s a recording from the last time I saw C.O.C. They were playing a huge venue, opening for Soundgarden and Danzig. I got there late and did not recognize many/any? of the songs. I got the last 20min of the set.

Live at the Cattle Club. Video from the collection of Jerry Perry. Gene had quit the band for the umpteenth time before this gig and this was his return show. Scott built a coffin and Gene was inside with his guitar already plugged in. James Telles pranced on-stage all glam-rocked out as the lead singer of their/his new band, My Little Pony and acts like an idiot. Scott pulls out a fake pistol from his makeshift holster and shoots Telles. Telles falls into the audience while Gene starts playing from inside the coffin. He kicks open the lid as the band rips into the tune – a resurrection of sorts.
As usual, I went to digitize this and found a whole new project to work. Here is SDG’s last show ever. My memories of the night are fuzzy- I remember that the I-Beam was packed and there was no place to tape, so it seems like I planted myself right in front of Carmela on stage because there was no other place to go. I also must have been kicked offstage at some point, as I filmed the end of the show from the back of the club. I also screwed up and unplugged/turned off my external mic so the encores are slient. I also have a master audience recording of the show. I can’t remember who taped it since I was onstage- maybe Mark Martin? Anyway, the audio tape probably could be synched with the encore, but the tape sounds like it was encoded in dbx and I don’t have a dbx decoder! D’oh. In summary, it was a wonderful mess. We’ll get the end of the show synched with audio someday.

About 14 years ago, we were lucky enough to have an opportunity to digitize Doug Morris’ archive. Doug was a DJ at KDHX in St. Louis and also recorded concerts in the 80s/early 90s. This one is a multitrack soundboard tape from miss nights. Sounds excellent. I have a LOT more of Doug’s stuff sitting on archived DVDs that need to be finished up all these years later. We got the collection and fortunately we were able to share the tapes between a few of us friends to transfer. I got it right at the time that I was caring for my mom, so it made it difficult to get it all done.
Transferred by: Shayne Stacy Equipment used: Nakamichi CR5A & EMU 1212M capture card Sounds like Doug might have used a 4 track to do this one. This is an xfer from the master OR 1st gen tape, not sure which
I think this is the super awkward and painful interview where the interviewer did not know the band at all, and asked some of the questions in a faux twang voice, since the band was of the alt-country genre. Man, it must suck to be a musician and put up with this shit.

The Kennel would sometimes bring in a psychedelic light show group to project their show behind the band. It was cool, but the band played in near darkness except for the light show. These videos were close to unwatchable before because they were so dark. They are much better now that we can brighten & enhance them.

Harm Farm was Morgan Fichter’s band before joining CVB in the late ’80s. This video was recorded shortly after Morgan left the band, and had Melanie Clarin from the GREAT Donner Party playing drums and singing the beautiful harmonies. This was alt country before it had a name. Enjoy.
